I understand that newsday covers Long Island and many areas, even though based out of Melville. I never find anything interesting to do on the east end except for the hamptons. There's no sushi places around Stonybrook, Port Jeff, Lake Grove, Holbrook, Centereach, Selden, Medford, Smithtown, etc... Everything is based local to your office, within a certain mile radius. The only time I find anything for our communities on here is if there is a fair with fireworks or a festival. Explore the island a little more and you'll find some great places out by us.
you obviously have no idea what you're talking about...I know a great place in port jeff and smithtown, and very decent ones in holbrook, ronkonkoma, and stonybrook
Even better

Ha - the best restaurant is right in my kitchen folks. It's great being married to a Japanese gal who can cook. And her ramen kicks butt too. Sake? Her dad goes out and buys a six pack of Miller or Schlitz when he visits from Japan. Now that's living the high life.

that was their point...Newsday only comments about places in their immediate vicinity, but never about places in other towns. That's why s/he commented about broadening their horizons and checking out some other towns outside of Melville!

Read their whole comment! This person was saying that NEWSDAY never reports on these places, but they do exist...s/he was just wondering why Newsday never seems to cover it!

Mt. Fuji in Centereach
Suomo in Patchogue
Nisen in Commack
Jimmy's Sushi in Ronkonkoma (across from Waldbaums on portion road!)

Tofu in Farmingville is awful...we gave them 3 chances, each time the food just didn't 'smell' right, and twice our rolls were warm, like they've been sitting out too long. ick...too bad because they're the closest to us!

Food at SHIKKI is quite good... however, as stated service is slow and sometimes even with an attitude - and the dining area is quite dirty - which is a shame, because the chef knows what he/she is doing for sure.

I've eaten Sushi for over 30 years, all over Long Island. One of the BEST is SHIKKI in Babylon. The service is a bit slow, but they make EVERYTHING fresh. Freshest, best sushi by far. Go in and try their Garlic Oysters and the Christmas roll. Both will make you go back for sure. They also have a Sushi/Shashimi dinner for 2 that is more than enough for THREE.

Actually, there is a great Japanese place on 25A in Setauket called Tai Show...excellent!! Also, in Smithtown, there is a little place on Jericho Tpke on Main Street (in the heart of Smithtown) called Shiki...also very good! Give them a try!

I have one bottle left, I took Roger's advice and used the other one to mask the potato and cabbage taste in my colcannon.
