drinking rum straight

can anybody tell me what would be a good rum to drink straight without mixing it?

ive heard that maybe with a dash of lime and some sugar, though i cant tell you where i heard it. im trying to find the same thing; i.e. the equivilent of drinking tequila with lemon/salt, like whisky with with ice cubes or 'threat (water'), like vodka straight or with a slight dash of lime...

I enjoy simple Bacardi Gold on the rocks or neat. Mount Gay is my first choice but it's hard to find and costs more.

It depends, if the object is to get intoxicated, the drink is appletons. If the object is to die, the drink is bacardi 151. (that basically means dont drink it.) But if taste is the name of the game then you can't go wrong with good old Malibu.

My favourite sipping rum is Havana Club 15. It's pretty pricey, but worth every penny. Not many places stock it though. You can try ebay or you could try www.rumshelf.co.uk or www.thewhiskyexchange.com . Both pretty good.

Captain Morgan spiced, Captain Morgan tattoo, and Bacardi select are good straight.

Ron Zacapa Centenario 23yo is the best rum in the world. It's from Guatemala and has be awarded 6 consecutive titles of best rum in the world. It costs about 50 pounds and you can get it from www.samswine.com in the US or from www.drinkfinder.co.uk yes in the UK. If you do enjoy rum you should experience this, it's liquid gold. Actually we have a spiced rum from Havana named "Anejo Siete Anos" (aged 7 years for you gringos) its muy better than Captain Moron so the next time you go to Mexico, look for it. Wonderful on ice if you can find ice,

Well....if i were you id find some Rhumm Barbancourt....its an 8 year aged haitian rum...and its different from other rums in the way that its made. That is it is made from straight sugar cane juice fermented as apposed to molasses like most other rum. It has gotten alot of good ratings so id try that. I happen to like it and i get it for cheap from a haitian kid i work with who goes back there and gets it every few months. Its good, also mixes great! Much more mild than most other rums yet higher percentage of alcohol. There is also a 15 year aged which i heard a good review on but havent seen it.

The absolute best rum I have ever had is
Flor de Cana Centenario Gold. Its aged for 18 years in oak barrels. Its great for sipping on the rocks or mixing. Its made in Nicaragua. It can be kinda hard to find in local stores but can be ordered from websites such as http://www.missionliquor.com/ . Very reasonably priced too, about $40.
I promise this will be one of the best rums you have ever had.

Does anyone know any good ways to take a shot of rum? like you can accompany a tequilla shot with salt and a lime, or a vodka shot with a lemon slice dipped in sugar. i only have rum tho and want a creative way to take a rum shot
