Low interest hurting retirement accounts

Full story: TwinCities.com

Swooning stock markets are not the only threat to baby boomers' retirements. Having just finished a periodic update of retirement income projections, it is clear my wife and I won't be as flush in retirement as we had expected just a few years ago.

Dems eye stock trade tax

http://thehill.com/homenews/house/68273-dems-...

House Democratic leaders are considering imposing a new tax on stock transactions to fund a jobs bill, leadership sources tell The Hill.

Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.) has been making the case for such a Wall Street tax, and House leaders have started paying attention as they look for a way to pay for the jobs bill, leadership sources said.

The idea is attractive because it’s very small, likely 0.25 percent of each trade. And since Wall Street is perceived by many as having caused the economic slump, brokers have little political standing to try to stop it.

It also has the support of the nation’s largest labor union.

more at thehill.com ...

Unions are so damn stupid that they don’t realize their pension funds etc. are in the stock market so they’ll take this hit, too. "Brain dead" is too kind a phrase for union morons.

Not "very small" in my book. I usually buy 10K worth of a stock at a time. This would be another $25 to buy and $25 to sell. It would be the better part of a thousand bucks a year for those of us who trade frequently.

I pay eight bucks for the trade ... to people who actually do something. The govt wants three times that for doing nothing.

So say you have an IRA that is making you money by stock. You will pay .25% for buying and then for selling stock. BUT you will also have to pay tax when you withdraw your money to use when you retire. TAX ON TAX.

IDIOTS.

Cancer

It's a sensational Full Moon in your sign, combined with a lunar eclipse! Holy cow! However, once you accept that even the best-laid plans could go awry today, you'll find that life is a lot easier to cope with. Try your hardest to take everything in your stride, even if you do have to rethink an arrangement at the eleventh hour. At least it's never a dull moment! Do your best not to let the tensions of the day spoil what promises to be some spectacular New Year's Eve celebrations. It will be an opportunity to let off steam. Have fun!
