The Truth campaign's latest commercial informs the public tobacco companies, in 1996, said drinking a glass or two of whole milk is riskier than second hand smoke and does so in its usual fashion with Derrick ... via Adrants

I saw the commercial and was confused. Was this commercial anti-milk or anti-tobacco? I think it was mocking the tobacco industry but it is really unclear. I think they need to be more straight forward in what they are saying. I think they should focus on the dangers of tobacco itself and not on attack the industry so much.

I totally agree - I don't understand what the commercial is going for. What's the "truth" they're trying to convey?

I think this commercial really goes too far.. I agree that smoking is harmful, but they act like the claim the tobacco company made is completely outrageous when in fact whole milk has unhealthy fat.
"Also, more than half of that fat is saturated, a concern for heart disease and cancer risk." http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/nutrition/whol... Why have they sunk to twisting something to make it seem like what it's not? Sounds a little hypocritical if you ask me. |

Yeah, Milk is bad for you..not from the fats..the truth is that Dairy cows undergo alot of stress during milking. A Factory cow's udder is 3x bigger than a regualer dairy cow..therefore diseases like Mastitis(infection) does affect these cows and goes into our milk. If you think about it, the sucking tools applied to their udders cause cuts, therefore blood and scabs get into the milk you drink. Its like reopening a wound on your hand, when wearing a very light glove, and having it rub. Although you think that the milk is screened through a process(homyg.), everything is still in there regardless. If a CSI detective were to ananylze milk for blood, his testing applicator would show positive. Gross huh? Not only that, but milk has been shown to be directly related to problems such as allergies and bone deterioration..and you think calcium was great for bones and even osteoperoses..TRUE. Calcium ALONE is good, the milk with it isnt. Cows are not our mothers. And Im not trying to sound like a PETA activist..Im making the point about milk, not for the cows sake. Heres all the facts:

Yes, it may be true, actually, and I'll tell you why...
Store bought milk, from huge dairy operations, has been heated so high so as to kill any bacteria in the filth, blood, piss, and feces that may be in the milk. The pasteurization (heat) is a "license to sell dirty milk". But, even though the dirt and bacteria is not alive, it's still in the milk. HOWEVER... fresh, milk from the dairy that has not been pasteurized is much better for you, as it comes from small dairies that are able to clean and disinfect each cow's skin before attaching the milking machine. Boiling also kills all the active enzymes that your body needs to effectively digest the milk and other foods. People that are lactose intolerant and can't drink (store bought) milk, find that fresh dairy milk can be enjoyed! Also, because the cow is eating organic grasses, and is not fed pesticides, hormones, etc., your body will appreciate it more. The taste is so much better too! Click on www.realmilk.com for eye opening information. You'll love fresh milk from the dairy, as it's so much better for you. |

I wondered when some one would finally make the call, cows milk is for baby cows,if you think you just have to have milk use goats milk its easier to digest,we(many of us) don't have the enzymes to digest cows milk.
as far as second hand smoke is concerned you can tell its bad for you its smoke and smoke indicates particulates in the air and you are breathing them in (not good)but think about the health risks from using milk sure its the first thing you are given as a baby but that should be mothers milk and I'm pretty sure everyone is weaned by age thirty something lol but milk is sold as a food often called the perfect food but hey 60 years ago doctors recommended cigarett smoking think about that. |

If nicotine is the most addictive drug on the planet... and it's in smoke... why have I never met a second hand smoker? Don't you think that if people really took in so much smoke that it affected them, may there would be just 1 person (non-smoker) that would be addicted to the terrible "second hand smoke"??? When was the last time you seen a person jump out of bed after having sex and say "I'll be right back, I have to run down to the bar for some second hand smoke!"

Since Milk is now that bad, I think they should tax the hell out of it. Sin Tax don't-cha-know! Lets say...$16 per gallon. That should curb those nasty milk drinkers habbits while making a ton of money for... shoot, how about "Education" that's always a good place for increases in taxes... the infamous Education Slush Fund!

My wife died from ovarian cancer, which is linked in many recent studies to the consumption of dairy products.
She was a lacto vegetarian, ate a lot of dairy. I am suffering from second-hand dairy product syndrome.....tears. |

I'm wondering where you received your information? I would be anonymous too, if I posted information such as yours. Automatic milkers do not cause cuts and scabs. Milk is tested for bacteria, mastitis, antiobotics, fat content, as well as other tests. You might want to visit your local dairy and find out facts first hand. I'm not saying that every dairy in the world conducts business in the best manner--there are always a few (AS WITH ANY BUSINESS) that cause problems for the business people who are doing the job right. It's too bad that people dwell on the few problem people and try to act as if they are the norm. I almost have to imagine you are not familiar with cattle or the dairy industry. I find it sad that many people rely on information when they may not know much or anything about the issue. Sure, milk in excess, like MOST ANYTHING, may have its drawbacks. People need to use a little common sense and not jump to damaging conclusions.

okay well first of all, second hand smoke is not an addiction, its something that happens when you are around someone that is smoking and you are inhaling the smoke that the person is exhaling. it is not neccicarly an addiction, if someone liked to be around second hand smoke so much and was "addicted" to it than they would most likley start smoking. what you said does not make any sense |

The commercial is confusing at best, for those of you wishing to comment off topic. However since I view off topic as an invitation:
My family loves milk, cheese and all things dairy – always liked real butter. Beef fat is great for cooking French fries, but second to sausage grease - and lard is the best for pie crusts. Small dairy farms are cool, raw milk and cream are excellent “hot from the cow.” Large dairy farms are ok if they are ethical and diligent. My family generally lives into their nineties, and personally I will be satisfied if I make it that far. A friend once chided me for my penchant of crispy bacon wrapped chicken livers and said they’d shorten my life… hmmm my blood tests and physicals are all good – but my response to him was,“Scott, you may just outlive me, but I’ll have enjoyed the road a lot more.” |

I agree with Alex.
My family consumes tons of dairy products daily. I have had one sister that was allergic to cows milk when she was young, so we bought and milked goats for her, and eventually she could drink store bought cows milk again (although I recognize that does not always happen). I also love fresh milk- it tastes better anyways. I agree that the ethics of the dairy companies should be considered when buy products, as with anything. But I would also be a lot more worried about the growing health hazards of energy drinks or if you really want to get fat drink pop! |

Now I know why there aren't that many books written on in-breading. There all to busy writing stuff on this blog. Some of you people must live on a pig farm out in the middle of now where and not have anyplace to go. Hello, they have empty houses in Mexico. If you hurry you might just get one.
