Boo freaking hoo. Everyone is having problems, I'm sick and tired of hearing this oh poor me crap, you didn't mind one bit when milk cost almost $5.00 a gallon but did you say oh the poor consumer, no, you were laughing all the way to the bank. Get over it, find another job if this isn't working for you. There are alot of people unemployed right now and you want sympathy. Fat Chance.

Hey, give the farmers a break. I know one who can't afford the Bose seven speaker sound system in his new air-conditioned tractor.

You people wouldn't last 5 seconds as a farmer. Doing actual hard work would kill you.

I did - it didn't.

Enough crying by the farmers. If the public ever learned that people don't really need milk, then they'd really be screwed. Humans are the only mammal that drink milk long past weaning, and it's not necessary. There are plenty other sources of calcium and vitamin D.

Well, it won't be long until the USDA starts setting up dairly collective farms. You know, collective farms like the Soviets had. The the govt. can set prices, production quotas, and control everything about the dairy industry. There'll be a color photo of the glorious leader inside every barn to motivate the Comrade Cows and daily at milking time, inspirational messages from Obozo will be sent over the radio to the cows.

I'm sorry but the farmers can't have it both ways. They can't continue to take government subsidies and then want the government to raise prices for them. I suggest the farmers lobby, which they do very well, to get ALL government subsidies eliminated to them and then let them compete against each other for business. This way they could charge whatever they want, and the farmers with the best product and price will succeed and the rest will not. That is the way it works for the rest of us that own small businesses. I get upset every time a farmer uses the excuse that we need them to survive. I think they need us (U.S. Taxpayers) more than we need them, and it is time they start to realize that.

Yep. Humans are infantile. I think it stuns our growth as beings. Its totally freaky that we drink milk past weaning...and COW milk too! Nasty!

How would you like nice fresh, cold, glass of HUMAN BREAST MILK? MMMMMM....!(wouldnt that make more sense...you are a human!)

Think of that for a minute...and suddenly, drinking milk becomes pretty weird.

Americans accept it because they are detached from the reality of milk. To them, its a "drink" that you get at the store with your orange juice and soda.

But the fact is, milk is for young mammals...not adults.

I totally agree. The is an effort on the part of the federal government to put small farmers out of business and to control the few large farms that are left. The stratagy is to lower prices to where banks will no longer loan money to farmers. Farmers will then be forced to get money from the FSA (a government agency). When that happens the take an active role in the management decisions of the farm. I know this for a fact as I have "been there -done that" as a farmer

Hike the prices then! People will pay it. Gas and oil prices were in the upwards of 4-5$ a gallon and people still paid. We NEED farmers we don't need 60 uni-marts.

Now i am sure most farmers work long hours with few if any vacations ,but when i see them tinkering around with modified tractors at these pulling events that cost tens of thousands of dollars ,i have to believe quite a few of them have money to burn.

Resident has it backwards. It is the large farm corporations that buy off legislators to design laws to run the family farmer out of business. Whether milk or pork, it is the same effort.

Corporations have the financial backing to withstand a run of low prices. The family farmer does not.

When a family dairy farm is shut down, it is gone forever. The eqipment auctioned off & the land once populated with cows become populated instead with houses on a quarter acre lot.

How many of us would go to work & then on payday you get whatever managements decides you get that week. When these farmers sell their milk, they don't know what they get until the check arrives.

Family farms in PA are under attack. Organizations like the Farm Bureau seem to be on the side of the large corporations as do our local legislators. The passing of ACRE was an example of this.

Cheap labor to keep their prices down..I thought you were into that. "As long is it is cheap for me...eff everything else" attitude. That is what you posted in another thread.. and as long as the Mexicans are legal who cares?
