In a case that has implications for beer drinkers across Pennsylvania , lawyers for beverage distributors urged the state Supreme Court to bar takeout sales of six-packs unless a retailer allows the beer to be ...

Dumb idea to sell beer WITH gas sales...don't you think it's the wrong message?
This would mean that any gas station with a Subway or other sandwich counter and picnic tables could eventually sell beer. Dumb. |

Oh, please! It's clear that the beer distributors simply do not want the competition here. Selling beer at a gas station or any other establishment is not going to matter if someone is intent on drinking and driving! Let's bring Pennsylvania into the 21st century and allow for 6 pack sales in grocery stores as well. We surely are the only state in the area where this is not possible. The idea that someone must buy a case of beer at a time limits our choices. I, for one, am willing to pay a bit more for 6 or 12 packs to have the opportunity to buy a couple of brands at a time.

I agree! Other states already allow beer sales in mini-marts and grocery store, however, we live in the commonwealth of PA, were freedom only exist in our minds. |

Beer maybe in stores someday maybe but this state makes to much money of hard liquor. Our state needs to lighten up.

Dumb? No, I do not agree. They say they don't want us drinking & driving, however it is all about the money. Get caught DUI & pay more money. |

Comrade Ahem...
I absolutely agree!! We will bury these capitalist pigs by denying them their demon alcohol and demoralizing them! I praise your reflexive thinking and advancement of the Socialist cause. War is Peace Freedom is Slavery Ignorance is Strength ... Yeah, Right. |

Where is the "free market" system I hear Republicans keep preaching about? Does it only apply to gasoline and other things that allow big business to rip off consumers? Remember: Competition is good for the economy!

I agree it is dumb! Pa is dumb being about the only state left not alowing beer to be sold in stores. Pa, come out of the dark ages. |

This why are taxes are so high, because we have idiotic situations like this.
Just sell the beer like the rest of the country. Why do we need to make peoples lives more difficult by having them make extra trips to a specific location to buy one thing. My day is busy enough and it would be nice to grab a six pack or two while I am picking up some grocery items. |

So if I'm reading this correctly, the Pennsylvania Malt Beverage Distributors Association wants the customer to be able to buy the beer, sit down, drink it and then drive away instead of buying the beer and driving away with it. What a great idea. Why not force the customer to drink whatever was purchased before leaving the store? Pennsylvania is so behind the times.

This is done in 47 states with no higher rates of DUI than the 3 that don't. Utah and MA being the other two than PA.
Get over this Puritan attitude toward beer and sell it. |

King's IGA in Schnecksville sells six packs! Very convenient!

The trouble here in PA is that we don't have a Republican in the Governor's mansion, we have a fat slob of a "big government" Democrat who will keep adding laws that rake-in cash. |

In the past 20 years, 12 have been Republican Govenors with Republican Legistlators. Get off the Dem bashing, the GOP has controlled the State house longer with absolutely nothing getting done. Same, I might add with Bushland in DC. Stop whining about nothing getting done. The GOP had the Executive and Legislative branch (and obviously the Judicial or Bush wouldn't even have been there) for 6 yeas. |
The free market system you talk about only lets a beer distributor (who can only sell by the case) own ONE beer distributor license. Wegmans and Sheetz can own as many "restaurant" licenses as they want! IS THAT FAIR! Why not just let beer distributors sell six packs so the conusmers can have that choice? We already have over 12,000 beer outlets in the state..do we need more? |

Originally it was about moral restraint. It added limitation to the exposure of alcohol, and its perception as a controlled substance, to youth in a public setting, and also so that the sales may be better controlled. Places that I've been where you can walk in a buy any 'vice' available seems to breed a type of populace that has lesser a moral quality. Look at NJ, they're really screwed up unless they're affluent, and even then they're weird. |
