Can't drink the water, but the beer is just fine. Anyone else get that going backward feeling? In history beer was originally brewed because the water was foul. Beer could keep and not become undrinkable.

Now we have the Asheville city council and their raiding of the MSD and water department funds. We are falling farther and farther behind on the repairs, and upgrades needed to our water and sewage system. Soon we may find our water undrinkable.

Why not clean up that blighted area with a viable business? We can't just make the whole area a bike trail or a park. I guess the "campers" in that area are going to have to find a new place to sleep.

That "blighted area" as you refer to it is featured along with the 12 Bones Smokehouse in the May 2008 issue of Southern Living magazine.

There already are many viable businesses in that area and more seem to be planned for the future ...

Come on. There may be some viable businesses around that area (and hopefully there will be more) but it's a blighted area. 12 Bones may be doing a roaring business but it still looks like a dump.

You just might be the queen of changing the subject in order to rag on people you're mad at.

The Asheville City Council is currently conducting $40 million in water infrastructure repair. If not for the unfair Sullivan Acts, Asheville could use true-cost pricing instead of subsidizing the entire County's water supply.

There's a brewery, Dave Steel Company, dozens of artists making a living, three thriving restaurants, a whole new housing development going in, a music hall, and the railroad businesses.

What's your beef, yo?

And your point is. It is a blight. Just because some magazine comes in and makes your panties wet off a story does not change the fact.

There are also empty buildings owned by people who choose not to do anything with them. This is the next boom area for Asheville.

My beef is with all the empty and abandoned buildings, either fix them or tear them down. The area is just plain ugly. Lets put some more businesses in the area and clean up the dumpy sections. More business means a healtier tax base and less burden on individual home owners. I have no beef with cleaning up falling down buildings.

By the way - all of those buildings were completely flooded in 2004. It's not the greatest place to locate a business or home.

Gordon

I thought I was clever. Most that want to rant just start off with I hate Bush. No matter what the forum.

As for the area. I have nothing but bad memories. My family still has a huge plant down there we have been trying to sale since before 04. The entire lower level was flooded, and still has mud in it. The plant hasn't worked in many years, and if it weren't for a horrible aversion to throwing money away we would donate it to Riverlink.

What about the money that they used elsewhere that should have gone for the water infrastructure?(A million a year).

It's been an industrial dump for many years and it's still a dump. New businesses going will surely help but I can't believe someone would buy into a housing development there. They either like floods or dumps or both. I can't figure that out.

OMG. Southern Living doesnt do a story and a layout just because someones panties gets wet over an area.

I dont know why anyone in their right minds would want to do a layout on that area. IT IS UGLY!! I will have to check it out to see how they managed to clean it up.

You kill me.:)

Who in their right minds would even want to live in a guaranteed flood zone? Can they even get homeowners insurance? I doubt they can get flood insurance. I would hope not. If you are going to be stupid, you had better be tough!
