And now that I am thinking... I dont think I added enough yeast. I bought a bag of dry yeast from the homebrewing store. I measured what comes with Mr. Beer and it is ~3/4 tsp of yeast. I think I only put in 1/4 tsp of yeast (forgot to put 2 more 1/4 tsp in)....

... Can I pitch another 1/2 tsp of yeast in there right now? I do have some krausion on top, and it definitely smells like its brewing, but I want a full beer.

OK so the results are in on the Root Beer. Slightly flat and watery. I must have done something wrong. I'll try to modify the next batch and make it smaller.
As for the Australian Lager, it's in the bottle and I'm still waiting to try one.

Skoii,
I recently "brewed" up some Cream Soda for my kids. I got the mix at the local brew shop. However, they mentioned to me NOT to use my Mr. Beer Keg to mix it. The soda pop base sticks to the pores in the plastic and cleaning it next to impossible. I purchased a 5 gal "ale pail" (essentially a 5 gal bucket with a spout hole) spout, tube and bottle filler to mix the soda in.
The cream soda came out ok, not great, but ok. I did Root Beer Yesterday, should be good in about 2 weeks. I'll report back on it.
The pail and the filler tube assembly are the best things I have ever bought to make the beer! The tube is spring loaded and when depressed in the bottle, it fills. When liquid reaches the neck of bottle, I remove the bottle filler, and it leaves just the right amount of space for carbonation. I also use the bottle and bucket assembly to do 5 gal beer packs from my local brew store and store separately in 2 Mr. Beer Kegs. I brewed up a batch of Coopers Austrailian Lager with a Plain Extra Light Malt also. Busy day. Happy 4th everyone!

OK. My 1st attempt was with a kit I got as a Christmas present in 2003. Brewed a month ago. The booster came out as a clump. The final product sounded like a .22 when I opened the caps (much wet-down involved). I ordered fresh ingredients (Lager & Pale Ale) & brewed. Followed the instructions to the letter but ran out of PET bottles for the Pale Ale & used Mason Jars with screw-on tops to bottle the 2nd batch. Should I expect explosions ( I was pouring off 6 Mason Jars when 2 I had poured off popped and made me thought I was back in Iraq!)? Thanks in advance, you folks seem great!

I have no idea how to help you, but I do want to congratulate your dedication to making beer at all costs. Have you tried other beer-friendly ingredients like molasses to mask that off flavors? It might work, maybe? Perhaps brown sugar, liquid smoke,... well I suppose you said limited ingredients. Have you looked into other home-brewing sites with larger "audiences" to answer your questions? I.e. Mrbeerfans.com -- someone usually answers questions within a day, sometimes many people offer multiple perspectives.

I have just brewed a batch of Fire In The Hole Chili Beer. I deviated from the recipie in that I used canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. I bottled it last week and am going to let it age until the Super Bowl. I fear it is going to be toxic. Has anyone else ever made the chili beer? I tasted it when i bottled it and it was really bad. I'm hoping the ageing helps

I'm a long time homebrewer, mostly extract but some all grain, that had to stop using my usual set up (full wort boil, counterflow chiller, oxygenator, conical fermentor, etc) for a variety of reasons. I picked up a Mr Beer on a whim because I missed brewing so much. In my opinion it is VERY good beer. I was pleasantly surprised!! I'm also beginning to think I've wasted many, many hours making a beer I could have done in a fraction of the time. I'm working up the courage to enter it in a competition just to see how it will do.

brew on...

The Mr Beer kit looks awesome! I live in the UK and have been researching a home brew kit that I could use, this looks like the best option for me. I just need to find someone who ships to the UK because we can't get the kit here. Anyway, thanks for all of the advice, and good on you for brewing beer.
