Study inspires San Bernardino beer ban

Are we going back to prohibition? It didn't work then, and it won't work now.

This is so stupid.

So, I guess its better to buy a 6pk, 12pk, 18pk, 20pk, 24pk, 30pk or 36pk than just one 24oz, 32oz or 40oz. Buy more, drink more. That makes sense. Let everybody who buys beer, drink more and hopefully pass out. What a way to cut down on crime.

Okay, so prohibiting a poor man's adult beverage intake equals reduction in violent crime? Wow, that's brilliant.

Probably the one little bit of happiness a poor guy has is his daily 20 oz. beer or two. He'll just look for something else, which could ultimately have more serious and tragic ramifications.

This is just a band-aid fix for a much bigger problem.

Somebody spent three decades studying the effect of tall can beer sales on crime? That's a waste of time. This law will not lead to a decrease in crime. This law is government at its worst. What are they thinking?

0ne simple step............. no cool/cold beer sales.......... that way the beer is not as readly consumable.

And what about dope?

The SB city council is ignoring basic statistics theory and history. One could tie the sale of candy bars to crime using the same method. The federal government tried to ban alcohol sales in an effort to reduce crime and we all know how well that worked.

I hope this pointless law gets challenged in court and gets overturned.

"Significantly greater than Zero"? Now that's REAL science. What a load of nanny state BS. No wonder San Bernardino continues to fail. Seems they have more in common with San Francisco than the IE.

This is just nonsense and I don't see it as a way to prevent crime at all. If the criminal wants a beer, they'll get the beer. It took me 30 seconds to figure this out, not 30 years. CHEERS!

loiving in southern california where mexicans start drinking cheap beer at 6 am 7 days a week, the state would restrict all beer sales until after 6pm. this would alleviate the mexican hit/run/drunk driving. then having them scoot back to mexico driving drunk.

Too bad for the small bussiness owner that counts on the sale of 40's, 32 and 22oz beers. Way to go city council for screwing the little guy, wonder why downtown SB, Carosel Mall is devoid of business. Perhaps some pot dispensaries will bring back some revenue.

There are two things wrong with this so-called research. To begin with, correlation does not equal causation. Secondly, the professor leading the research is approaching the task with the intention of finding a link - hardly an unbiased and objective approach.

The fact that the SB City Council used this so-called research to justify a ban on alcohol sales destroys their credibility. Anyone can see through that smokescreen.

That's great. Can we commission these guys now to do a study of the crime rates in areas where predominantly suits and ties are worn and derivatives are traded. Now that would be an interesting study to examine. Just saying . . .

Ya know, there might be something to this. Years ago, I worked with a number of police agencies including the San Bernardino PD, and when suspects were asked what they had to drink, they often responded "a forty". This probably meant "more than one forty", but I have to wonder what they might have done without those venerable forty oz. bottles of adult beverage. Hmmmm.

liquor in the back. Nice, Cold and cheap!!!! Gets around the law and
sells to his REGULARS only all the time!!! Another great move from
a city that's seen it's schools, businesses and way of life head straight
down the ol' S***TER ever since Santa Fe and Norton AFB base close up

I'll bet the so-called researcher got paid with a Gov't grant. They should have filled out the amount of the check as "significantly different than zero" and see if the bank buys it? The city attorney is going to be real busy if they try to ban single sales of alcoholic beverages. But cheer up San Bernardino, We could have the morons on the Los Angeles city counsel as our city counsel instead of the ones we have. WOW! Talk about dodging a bullet.

The Nanny State takes over. All these ideas might be great but there is no real evidence that a single beer sale causes crime.
I dare the City Council to put a sunset provision on this silly law which would repeal it in 5 years if crime is not significantly reduced.
