Please, oh please, come to downtown Los Angeles. We need a real pub over here that doesn't overcharge for their beer and has a great selection.

Oh, this is too sad! Not only is it a crime that this place is closing, but it's also a crime that these folks will be out of jobs. And not only that, but the fact that us locals will not be able to hang out in this landmark, it's practically a landmark!, is a shame. And what are they going to put there, more ugly condos?
I hope that the owners will open a new place, Crown City Continued-C3, you can't keep a good bar down!, and I will be there.
See ya soon!

It is with a heavy heart that I post a comment here about the ending of an era. I was one of the opening employees at CCB in 1988. I spent 31/2 years behind and in front of that bar and have remained friends with many of the people I knew back then. I can't drive through town without stopping in for a brew or two and seeing some of the nicest and most genuine people that I have ever known. Jack, Mike, Dennis and Bob started this place to welcome family in for a great meal and in the process created a family of people that can not be replaced.

Viva la CCB, you will be sorely missed!

Great food, great ale. Chef Roger's clever use
of his cookbook made it for me. You will be missed.

Doesn't surprise me. The staff was always rude. I would never go back there.

Where will we all go? I'm sad that the Crown is closong. I bartended for five years of my life at the Crown. I met people there who I love. The Crown means different things to differnt people, but those who know the place , and the people will shed a tear when the doors close. Dennis, Jack, Mike, Matt, and all the regulars I don't have time to mention, I will miss you the most. Raise a pint, and remember the Crown and all it has done for you. Cheers!!!

Crown City is and always has been special. The staff is one of a kind -- laid back, but good at what they do. After 2-3 visits, they knew what I drank (diet coke and corona - both) and knew which football team I came to watch. I have never encountered a place quite like the Crown and I know it will be missed. I wish only the best for the staff and owners. Thank you.

If you can not afford to fix the brewery equipment in 2002 - the writing was on the wall. I would recommend the Newport Brewery in Newport Beach.

What a crime, "where in the world can you go where everybody knows your name now"? It seems like places like that just have vanished of the face of the So. Cal scene.

How about looking into the Sierra Madre area for a new location?? Posssibly even Arcadia?? South Pas?? Don't leave...come back to the light!!
What about us???

No matter where everyone ends up, nothing will resemble the Crown. The thing about the Crown is/was that it attracted an eclectic crowd. Where will don brown go? Where will bitburger dan end up? Dog? Joel? Paul? etc... All is lost!

Or maybe, just maybe Jack will find another spot>

Thanks for taking the time to create an article that reads like the special place you described. When we opened Crown City almost 20 years ,we were truly4 local friends that wanted to create a place where we could find our friends on holidays and their returns back to Pasadena. We never could have anticipated how the community embraced our business, and made "the crown" the place to meet great friends. You are obviously a freind of the Crown and I thank you for the great article.Cheers Dennis Hartman

Is Orazio Salamone still in charge at the Newport Brewery? That is a great place but with the price of Gasoline a bit far to go for great beer.
