I grew up with the Jordan Brothers starting with one of their very first performances at the YWCA on South Center Street in Pottsville, all the way through to their appearances at Willow Lake. I believe I was about 9 or 10 when I saw them at the YWCA and continued to go to their dances all the way through college at Lehigh U before I moved to
San Francisco.
They were a wonderful band that could replicate almost any song not only with their sound, but also with their four voices(including The Beatles). Everyone in my group went religiously every Friday and Saturday night to the Lake to dance and socialize.
They provided a forum for kids that was fun, wholesome and safe which doesn't seem to exist
today thanks to all the lawyers and their liability mandates. Things were much simpler
then and the Coal Region was a great place to grow up with an environment that encouraged and fostered a sense of achievement. People like the
Jordan Brothers and their parents provided
my generation in the area a well rounded childhood
with a safe place to blow off steam though an avenue where very few "calamities" occurred.
