I buy my beans just N of Baoshan. I know the region well, and the farmers who grow and process it. This article is complete BS. Another fabricated hit piece. If you doubt, I'll give you a tour

Hey Bob: Can you tell me how long does it take to go by bus via highway from Dali to Baoshan? I assume it's about 3.5 hours?

Yeah, about that. The RR is being extended from Dali to Baoshan, but that'll be a while yet. Is there anything I can do or arrange for you here? I have friends in Baoshan and Ruili and Burma

What I need is Swiss Water Process Arabica beans and you won't get that in China in a hurry.

But I've managed to sort out most of my bread baking problems now.

Coffee flavoured bread.... now there's a thought!

They explicitly say Yunnan - including Baoshan - is a significat coffee growing region, and that is has been since the late 1800s.

If you're upset about the discussion of the effects of coffee growing on the environment, you should take note that they have similar comments about most places in the world where coffee is grown.

I like how this article starts of congratulating the Chinese in tasting and moving from tea to coffee and then turns 180 and bashes the coffee planters for growing too much of it.

Just pointing out some things you obviously didn't consider before denouncing the article.

What makes you think I didn't consider? Do you think I might not have noticed? Unlike some, I don't shoot off my mouth before I know the facts. What facts do you know? Something you read somewhere?

The Dali to Ruili Railway opens to traffic around 3rd quarter 2011. I guess the idea is eventually connect China to India by rail via Myanmar.

The fact that you leapt to the conclusion this was some attack on China - and didn't give any apparent regard to the fact the website was full of articles critical of other countries for the same thing.
Bob Burns wrote:

You may have noticed, but didn't acknowledge it, or seem to factor it in before you jumped to your unproven conclusion.
Bob Burns wrote:

I know that you either didn't bother to look at anything else the website had to say, or you didn't consider it before making an illformed conclusion. I know you made the assumption that it was produced with nothing else in mind but to bag China - and I know that you were wrong to do so.

More to it than that. China has leased a huge deposit of gas near Sitwe in Burma, and is building infrastructure and facilities to get it out, process it, and transport it by pipeline to Kunming and the rest of China, so pipelines, RR and freeway to there. Also, we're building a port further south, planned to be bigger than Shanghai, so pipelines RR and freeway to there too. The "back door" to China will soon be opened wide. Side benefit will be the transformation of Burma. As you know, there's a labor shortage in China. Many Chinese factories will spring up there, reliving the shortage and providing jobs to Burmese. Just one more piece of the inevitable "Greater China"

That railway follows the "Burma Road" from W.W.II, the key supply lifeline for China. There was also a Stilwell Road running from India through Myanmar (Burma) to that area in western Yunnan. So, it's been done before.

China and India will be among the world's largest economies in this century. So, the highway and railway link between these 2 economies will occur through this part of the world in Yunnan.

That plan to link China and India by rail is going very slowly. It's supposedly to go thru B'desh. Due to this and that, probably the link thru Nepal will be the first link to India

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Leo

This is one of those days when money slips through your fingers in no time at all unless you're very vigilant about your spending habits. Unfortunately, it will be difficult to stop yourself splashing out whenever the fancy takes you, whether or not you can afford it. You're especially drawn to tempting little treats and luxurious indulgences.
