My family actually was one of the last families to leave Babenhausen before they turned it back to the German government. It was very hard to say goodbye to such a wonderful place. We loved it their and miss it very much. All the locals were very kind and we loved traveling and seeing new exciting things. I was very happy that my children got to experience such a great place, and they will always remember it.

I found out about the closing on this web sight. It makes me very sad, I had plans to go visit the old post sometime in the next few years I wonder if people are still allowed on it? Kind of ironic at the time I couldn't wait to leave that place now I want to return!

I had many fond memories of that post and always had plans to go back one day. That happened this past week while traveling with my family. What I got to show them was a view from the main gate of total desolation. It was disheartening to see empty buildings, grass higher than your knees and junk laying around. I talked with a local in Babenhausen and he told me the town is in sad shape also. Many businesses are closed and a lot of unfinished construction because of no money.

Does anyone have photos of the teen club. officers club, housing area, including the duplexes, or any photos if hanau jr high and frankfurt high school or any of the dances they used to hold by the teen clubs?

We would get in so much trouble going out there and exploring until after dark. I went to the elementary school on the post. I remember taking field trips into town. I saw Gremlins in the theater. Scared the crap out of me! Man, I would love to go back. Feels like more like a dream than reality.

I met alot of good people and had alot of good times on that post and across the street at Cheers. I WAS STATIONED THERE 1974-1976 WITH THE 2/5 FA C/BATTERY 175 SP GUNS. I ALSO SERVED WITH THE UNIT POLICE. I HAD A GREAT TIME WHILE I WAS THERE, ONE OF THE THINGS WE USE TO DO ON PAY DAY FOUR OF US WOULD GET TOGETHER AND RENT A VW FOR THE WEEK END, WE WOULD TRAVEL ALL OVER ON AN AVERAGE RADIOUS OF 200 MILES. ANOTHER ONE WE WOULD RUN FROM THE KASERNE TO THE CASTLE'S TOWER AND BACK. GOOD MEMORIES, I HAD MANY GERMAN AND SPANIARD FRIENDS KARL, FRANCISCO AND THE REST OF THE GANG HECTOR MARTINEZ FROM BROWNSVILLE TX, DANIEL MURO FROM SAN FRANCISCO, CHRIS FROM L.A. I was with the hhb 2/5 FA I was first with a bty then went to HHB bty Iwas aredeye gunner back then i loved every min I was over there had alot of great time great friends and just wish i could have made it back but with felling heath i will never make it. I hope all that have served there the very best in whatever their lives have brought them and may god be with you all
