Yup. All the bay area yards were doing stickers today, but managers just said "sure, you can wear them on your boots" and sent everyone to work an hour late. Kinda funny watching/listening to/reading online about the whole thing as it unfolded in different yards.

Along with your application the answers to these simple questions will determine the outcome. Cebrian Street, W. Sacramento, CA thanks for this I'm excited yayah, I can't sleep lol.

san jose, santa clara, mountain view, redwood city and parts of san fran + scattered yards in SoCal and Nevada were given the choice to remove the stickers or place them on their boots and yet were directed by the CWA to refuse. we were sent home. seems as if mgmt. didn't have a unified response to this union approved concerted effort. i guess sacramento's CWA rep.s/stewards didn't get with what the CWA was telling us to do. BTW, this started for us (multiple days of refusing to remove/relocate the stickers and getting sent home, that is) on Friday.

The yards with lots of senior techs or guys surplussed from inr, who already have issues with their managers, all left. Newer yards and those with good tech/manager relationships waffled more. As a new tech myself, it's a little annoying to know that the people pushing these walkouts so hard have sick days and vacation available to use, and money saved in the bank to weather the storm. Strike pay and support should use reverse seniority rules to be truly in solidarity, and get everyone on board.

The review AT&T sent out for you to pass the TFMT II, do not help. Barron's helps some what... but not good to pass the TMFT II. It's sad.

The newest of many rumors is that all st's 10 years and less are going to be replaced with pt's 2 years or more and the aforementioned poor st's will become ,you guessed it..., prem techs. To the idiot who is making this shit up, I literally spit out my cookie crisp when I heard that one this morning. Allow me to elaborate on a "true" rumor that I heard from a real source. ALL buried service wire technicians aka plow boys aka tractor wrestlers aka utility workers will be made premise techs if their contract isn't renewed. All of those guys have more time than the MOST senior prem tech. At the end of the day the least senior guy is the one who will be gone. If you have less then two years you need to build a resume. Disdain for core employees does nothing to advance the cause for people who wish to replace the core. I spent EIGHT YEARS breaking my back to become a st. YOU DON'T DESERVE IT ANYMORE THAN ANYONE ELSE.

Here iin the SE there has been absolutely no work for 2 weeks. Last week they asked if I wanted to go home early 4 out of 5 days and I refused and hit the button everyday till there was nothing left. I had 34 hours for the week and worked every minute I possibly could. Non Senior techs were not asked and just sent home, one of them told me he had 9 hours for the week. Really Fucked up thing is that everyone sure as shit will be forced to work late on Friday and even later on Saturday due to a heavy load. Att has something up their sleeve down here cause theres no way it could be normal and busy one day and just all the sudden dry up. Cwa thanks for nothing still, 3 years and counting...........

The load is light because they're anticipating a strike. If the union strikes, management doesn't want a ton of installs on the books for all those call center workers and office managers to try to deal with.
So, they are pushing out like 80% of installs across the board, and shutting down the repair lights early each day as well. Hence, no strike, but also no work getting done. In a weird way, this actually works out better for the union as leverage than the actual strike would maybe.
Really sucks for the non-union districts though... Can't even get the contractual 40 hours when the load is so light.

Phaseshift will you be working in the Los Angeles area? Please keep us posted.Interested to see if the company will hire during contract negotiations or postpone your start date until contract is settled.

Please wait...
I'm in Northern California and I just got off the phone with AT&T Staffing. They said that there would be no hiring until the contract is settled. Premises Tech jobs will be posted again once this happens. It's important to keep the e-mail from the person who contacted you about the RJP/PTA. That is most likely your only communication link to them.

Also add that the economy is heading toward depression.Soon premium TV will be a luxury for most people and the musical chairs of rotating providers between cable, satellite, and Uverse to get the free promotions will end soon.I give it 2 yrs.

Hey guys, I just got a call from ATT HR rep literally like 20 minutes ago, I got a conditional job offer for 20.00/hr and once I've done my background investigation and drugtest I will get a firm job offer and my orientation starts on May 25th.
She didn't mention anything about postponing the start date or anything like that.
However, I had already plans to be out of town on memorial day weekend so I asked her since orientation is Friday May 25th, if my first training day will be on Memorial day. She said that it will probably be tuesday since memorial day is a company wide thing.
My question is, is that accurate? Will my first training day be May 29th Tuesday?

Phaseshift that's very cool about your orientation being on the 25th of May. Your first day of training being on Tuesday makes sense because of the holiday. I would be confident that's the case. Hey maybe Staffing in the L.A. area anticipate the contract being settled by then. Keep us posted.
*Yesterday the Staffing person up here said she was referring to California and Nevada.

Phaseshift, I worked for AT&T for a little over ten years. But was surplused and offered a PT job in Bakersfield which would have called for me to relocate from the SF bay area. I've been installing structured cabling since leaving the phone company. It looks like I'll be doing PT work before summers out. The Staffing person said it could be til July for the contract to be settled. But I hope it's sooner. As far as May 28th(Memorial Day) being a holiday it was the Staffing person you spoke to who let you know that. If you still are wondering about it maybe you can go to a nearby PT yard and verify. But it was always a honored holiday when I worked for AT&T.
