IT'S A FEDERAL LAW!!!!! If you try this you are stupid;you will do time!
You are correct that you can not carry a fire arm in a commercial vehicle. But a tow truck is not considered a commercial vehicle. You only have to have a class c drivers license.

From what I hear, the tow company that really needs to be shut down for good is Lone Star Auto. My friend had his car towed from Greenville Ave in the Blockbuster/Whole Foods parking lot a few weeks ago. Come to find out, neither them nor Whole Foods had a contract with Lone Star, but they towed a lot of cars that night from the lot anyways. Here's the link to the story...

My friend raised enough stink with a local community activist that he got fully reimbursed by the tow company for the tow and the cab fee he had to pay to get home. I think he's still planning on filing a formal complaint as well. Something like 3 convictions and they get shut down. And he's got one complaint for the towing and one for the government entity fee that they aren't supposed to charge but did anyways.
Lucky for all of us. The state shut them down after their State Fair doing. But then the go work for other towing companies like,United,All-star,Cencir,an d Choice towing. But the city or state does nothing.

Tow truck drivers and companys, are just bottom feeders. They feed off people that are at a low point, and then make their situation more difficult. They all have some nasty person on the telephone that has no intention of helping anyone. You have to pry the information out of them that you need to get your vehicle back. There are no laws to help the consumer against these thugs. They could probably drive up and take any car away they chose, and there would be no recoarse. There needs to be laws in place to protect the public from these roving mercenaries. I'm sure the driver that got shot was a fine upstanding kind individual.

'patrol towing by its very nature is predatory. These companies depend on ex cons and meth heads for employees because no DECENT person would do that kind of 'work.' No sympathy for the driver that got shot if he was involved in patrol towing! People have a right to prevent their cars from being towjacked!

What alot of people who are posting comments in defense of these wrecjer drivers, don't know, is that 85% of private property towing is done illegaly, because of the kickbacks given to parking facility owner/manager.
Effective Sept 1, 2008, every wrecker driver regardless what he/she tows must be licensed by the Texas Department of Licening & Regulations. In addition, the wrecker driver upon request by a consumner must display that license. No license, No Money, Try Taking Vehicle With no TDLR License, expect deadly force.
90% of the towing signs in the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex don't even comply with State Law because they fail to contain the required language.
You people should take a serious look at www.texastowingcompliance.com , these folks can be lifesavers when taking on a towing company!
As your link suggests, people can fight back with the illegal signs and illegal towing that goes on at apartments and other places.

OR CAN THEY?

I have recently got a RUDE AWAKENING when I took a Tow Truck Company to court about their poor outdated signage. This must be in compliance or it is an illegal tow people out there defending tow trucks.

What I discovered is that few people take these companies to task, and now maybe I see why.

Our court Date was with Judge Sandra Ellis,of Dallas County Precinct 3, Place 2 located in Richardson Texas. She is a career politician. Don't let the term Judge fool you, she has no law degree and apparently could care less about the State Laws of Texas, nor the procedures involved in having a fair trial. She was elected and that means campaign contributions especially from people that would otherwise lose most cases in court.

Who do I mean?

Apartments and Tow Companies

She has a Real estate license as far as I can tell, and is paid money from Apartment Associations and probably Towing companies as well. at least from the horrendous court room antics I have seen with her. She actually speaks for the defendant and will tell a towee that the burden of notification about parking at his apartment complex was on him. An 18 year old kid. Not the complex or the tow truck signs. It didn't matter if they were out of compliance. Her friend was out of compliance and case close, judge finds for the defendant towing company.

This Judge needs an investigation, and I am sure it won't be too hard to find corruption there. Look at how many cases about towing or evictions are won and by who. Numbers won't lie.

Vote her out of office, I think her next election is 2014.
When a judge like Sandra Ellis sits on the bench and only helps her backers, what do we need state laws for?

Disgusted, but willing to vote her out.

No sympathy for these towjackers. The more they suffer the better! Most are criminal scum. Background checks would put a lot of rogue towjackers out of business.
