Yes, Kitty - at least one Marin resident is happy about it... ME!

I don't think I'd mind this kind of event so much if I weren't so put off by the habits of regular bicycle riders around here - like blowing through stop signs and riding their bikes on the sidewalk.

"I would love to see them include a time trial from Sausalito to San Francisco, or the other way, across the Golden Gate Bridge," Tom said.

That would NEVER happen. The Bridge would be paralyzed for several hours were that to happen. I'll miss seeing Marin in the race next year. AT LEAST it is in May and not is super crappy Feb. weather. It was embarrassingly bad this year.

all the police who post here - you know you are: please arrest the cyclists for their EVERYDAY behavior (on miller, on the grade, almost anywhere) in marin. then maybe, just maybe - you might have an impact on bicycle fatalities.

"Arrest all cyclists for their everyday behaviour" - what would that be, getting out of bed and eating breakfast? How about just citing those who actually break the law?

The only people I ever see riding on the sidewalk in Marin are children.

weird posting... cars (drivers drunk, speeding, on drugs or on cell phones) kill bicyclists. very weird logic. must be a female.

I've watched the Amgen tour from the street each year. It is very exciting to wait for an hour or so, then have the riders shoot by so quickly as I rattle my vintage cow bell. I live in West Marin and just have to travel 5 minutes to see it pass thru the little town of Point Reyes Station. It brings lots of people out to have a good time and I'm sure it's great for the businesses. As far as I know, the Amgen attracted well-behaved crowds and single people to families either watched it from their front yard, or traveled to see it, and I even watched it via the real time web experience.
I will miss the tour not traveling thru West Marin. I wonder if the cyclists will miss it as well? It was a gorgeous ride, especially from Mill Valley, over the mountain to Stinson Beach and along Tomales Bay. Speaking of Stinson Beach, if I recall correctly, the 2nd race had problems because the Stinson Beach crowd complained it impacted their businesses and they demanded more money in compensation. Perhaps there were just too many of these type of complaints, so they took the race to places that would appreciate it more.
I hope it comes back to Marin. I will be sending the official people a letter expressing my dismay in their decision to leave one of the most beautiful and lovely counties out of their race this year.

As long as the arrogant, Obumma voting, chai tea with soy milk drinking, self-centered bikers stay out of Tahoe, I could care less where you have your race!

If you're got complaints, than go complain to your city counsel.

Other wise quit whinning!

A tour of Northern California would be far better as there are probably less whinners up in the north country!

BICYCLISTS....Please stay in the flatlands! We don't have Starbucks with wi-fi, Prius recharging stations, Banana Republic, hemp clothing, or organic muffins and vegies. You won't like it, it will just ruin your whole day!

This article was a misprint...it was supposed to read--Professional cyclists skip to Marin. What do you suppose that means?
