NOBODY IN EUROPE CARES.Now Italy WHATS Greece out of the Euro system, can you blame them. After all Italy banks are having to write of 106 billion euros of Greek debt, if greece was a house it would have been repossessed long ago. Before long you will be back with your Drachma currenncey. I still have a 1 drachma issued during the military controlled republic, there was alot of Mussolimi style Greeks around then, who tried to grab a Turkish cypriot island called,''cyprus'', Turks stopped their crimes, and this led to the downfall, so really all Greeks should celebrate the Turks.

Thank the Greeks for their OXI to Musulini, or Hitler may have won WW2. "Greece entered World War II on 28 October 1940, when the Italian army invaded from Albania, beginning the Greco-Italian War. The Greek army was able to stop the invasion and even push back the Italians into Albania, thereby winning one of the first victories for the Allies. The Greek successes and the inability of the Italians to reverse the situation forced Nazi Germany to intervene in order to protect her main Axis partner's prestige. The Germans invaded Greece and Yugoslavia on 6 April 1941, and overran both countries within a month, despite British aid to Greece in the form of an expeditionary corps. The conquest of Greece was completed in May with the capture of Crete from the air, although the Fallschirmjager suffered such extensive casualties in this operation that the Germans abandoned large-scale airborne operations for the remainder of the war. The German diversion of resources in the Balkans is also considered by some historians to have delayed the launch of the invasion of the Soviet Union by a critical month, which proved disastrous when the German army failed to take Moscow."

Inspired by the Greek resistance during the Italian and German invasions, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill said, "Hence we will not say that Greeks fight like heroes, but that heroes fight like Greeks".[134]

In a speech made at the Reichstag in 1941, Hitler expressed his admiration for the Greek resistance, saying of the campaign: "Historical justice obliges me to state that of the enemies who took up positions against us, the Greek soldier particularly fought with the highest courage. He capitulated only when further resistance had become impossible and useless." The Führer also ordered the release and repatriation of all Greek prisoners of war, as soon as they had been disarmed, "because of their gallant bearing."[133]

In response to a letter from George VI dated 3 December 1940, American President Franklin D. Roosevelt stated that "all free peoples are deeply impressed by the courage and steadfastness of the Greek nation", and in a letter to the Greek ambassador dated 29 October 1942, he wrote that "Greece has set the example which every one of us must follow until the despoilers of freedom everywhere have been brought to their just doom."[135]

The word heroism I am afraid does not render the least of those acts of self sacrifice of the Greeks, which were the defining factor in the victorious outcome of the common struggle of the nations during WW11, for the human freedom and dignity. If it were not for the bravery of the Greeks and their courage, the outcome of WW11 would have been undetermined. Winston Churchill 24th April 1941

Only Greeks didn't want to be invaded by the Nazis. Now, can you please explain to me why you are celebrating Greece's national holidays buy closing all government offices and schools? Countries already have plenty of their own holidays but Cyprus gets double the holidays and double the fun. You could observe the holiday and celebrate it without making it an official holiday. This is a national holiday for Greece and as far as I know Cyprus is not part of that nation.

." The Führer also ordered the release and repatriation of all Greek prisoners of war, as soon as they had been disarmed, "because of their gallant bearing."[133] You are a lone trumpet, little greek boy, Sorry to tell you The Greeks were released because they were all peasents and farmers who the Germans had no problems with killing and capture.Hither saw the massive number of coward Greeks surrendering, and could not take them serious and like the turks in 1974, took pity no these sab excuse for a army.so much so that he could see that in fact the Greeks plan was to bankrupt germans by forceing the germans to feed and in general pissing germans off by seeing grown men begging to be set free. I can assure you that greece and the islands was easy pickings for hitler.

I for one refuse to have anything to do with this day of infamy. The Italians just wanted to show Hitler they were tough & they certainly would not have killed many Greeks. Look at Denmark. They got invaded by the Germans & lost 16 soldiers before surrendering quckly. The Danes just waited for the war to finish & look at them now. They are now very rich. Greece lost 1 million people through War, Starvation & then Civil War. For what reason? Look how the British betrayed us over Cyprus! I despise Ochi Day.
