Additional lack of discipline by the parents will really go a long way in decreasing to 40% crime rate Costa Rica is experiencing at this time.

Along with "NO SPANKING" we should also forget jails, prisions, fines and all other means of proving regard for laws and parents disclipines is worthless.

I found the children in Costa Rica to be exceptionally well-behaved and polite for the most part. In sharp contrast to the whining, fidgety, loud US tourist children -- who were completely annoying in restaurants and at the airport in Liberia.

Children should only be spanked if they run into the road or touch the stove. That's always been my philosophy.

I understand that times are changing and so are the way people discipline their children, however, I grew up in Costa Rica when spanken was an ok thing to do, my parents did spank their children and thanks to their love and discipline we turned out to be ok.
They were people of faith, I pray that today's parents will find the strengh and faith needed to raise their children on God's way in order to stay out of trouble and be succesful parents.

Required reading for anybody interested in this topic, especially Don Johnson, is "The Seville Statement on Violence"(1989). It can be easily found with your search engine. It is easy reading.

Blame this on the incompitency of Christian churches ahd pastors who preach about the book of Proverbs as advocating the use of spanking with a rod but never ever quote the Fourth and the Fifth Commandments which together advocte spanking properly without any form of child abuse. That became taboo when the 10 Commandmentw were given to Moses in the bible.

I am proud of this wonderful new idea. As a child I was spanked and to the day I remember that with resentment and sadness. I am who I am not because of
physical abuse, but because of good lessons, hard work and wonderful teachers and my own desire of never ever repeating the same mistakes of my parents.
