Costa Rican Man Befriends 16-Foot Crocodile

Full story: NBC 11 San Francisco Bay Area

A Costa Rican man said he's made an unlikely friend in a 16-foot crocodile. Gilberto Graham has seemingly domesticated the 1,000-pound crocodile, starting his own show with the animal in the port city of Limon.

Crazy costarican, I would not even come close to that thing even if it was dead.....But then again, you have to see the way they play with 500-600 Kgs bulls during new years celebration at Zapote, I think..........

They had it on TV today and you saw the guy playing wiht the croc and cuddling it. When it was just a baby it had a gunshot wound and he rescued the croc manually feeding it and caring for it .... the croc has grown up looking upon this man as one of its "family". You can see by the Sky News film they showed the croc has no animosity whatseover to this man and in 20 years has never even tried to bit him. Heck lions become human play friends whereaas normally they would kill someone ... this is no different. I would have been dubious of the reports if I had not seen a Sky News film of them both together playing. the guy even sleeps alongside the croc. I bet that croc would protect him as well if need be.

Croc are one of my favorite animals along with Sharks. Im so pleased to see in my life time that this is possible to that close to a Crocodile and live. Totaly amazing!! and i guess a little stupid as these guys a natural Predictors.
But as the saying goes; 'don't bite the hand that feeds you'
In this case he has been rescued fed and well looked after hes obviously happy or the guy would have no head! Good luck to them . if im ever in Costa Rica i shall pay him a visit :) xx

hi,
for anyone who wants to know, there are lots of youtube videos of 'chito and pocho'. the croc wasn't a baby when it was shot several times by a rancher whose stock the croc was after. chito took the croc, nursed it back to health.

what's really incredible is not only does the croc swim with him, he follows chito's commands!'go this way','go that way','give me a kiss','roll over', and lots more.

i've trained animals and was studying to be a vet. crocs' brains just don't have the ability to do this and no one knows why pocho is the exception. chito's explanation is that 'god meant for this to happen'.

chito alone is worth the trip but all i know is that if you go to costa rica and don't make the trip out to las tilapias in siquirres to see the two pals, you're missing a once-in-a-lifetime incredible adventure!

sadly, wen rob, the pocho is dead now. he died a couple of months ago of natural causes. the whole country mourned his passing and a memorial was held for him attended by people from all over.
the croc was always free and never had his mouth 'sewed together'. anyone who ever saw the two of them, chito and his friend pocho, together came away amazed. it was my understanding that steve erwin, the croc hunter, had made arrangements to come to costa rica to meet chito and pocho but steve passed away before he got to visit.
it's too bad you never got to see the two friends work together.
