There is (I think) in Canada a misconception that Canadian plates are targeted for collecting revenue when going South on the Highways...I dont subscribe to that however.
I was in a situation as described in attached letter......wrote twice with cheque and did not receive receipt or acknowledgement letter....surely it would be common courtesy to send a reply and receipt from the courts.....still love Virginia country. Regards John Martin ----- Original Message ----- From: John To: greenwoodjohn@rogers.com Sent: Saturday, September 19, 2009 8:31 AM Subject: Virginia John Martin 2525 Concession Rd #6 Greenwood Ontario Canada L0H 1H0 Wythe County Sheriff's County Office Dear Sir/Madam Please find cheque for $136 enclosed with explaination for Traffic ticket ......summons enclosed. I am 74 Years old and have been driving through Virginia for over forty years on my way to Southern states...mainly Florida . I am proud that in 58 driving years I have not had an accident. I am aware of the dangers of exceeding speed limits and am content to stay in the inside lane and enjoy the beauty of Virginia and the Carolinas. On the day of the Summons I was on my way to family reunion in Sarasota to celebrate our Golden Anniversary. The flow of traffic that day was such that on ocassions I and others had to pass slower vehicles to allow for a comfortable recognition of the posted speed limits. I was in the passing lane for a brief period to pass when the officer was parked in that lane and upon re-entering the inside lane was flagged down by another officer and issued the summons. I was shocked at the event and it cast a cloud over our upcoming celebrations......which was a few days later.August 29. If you are able to waive this fine and accept my apology I would be indeed be grateful. Hoping that this letter is received in the spirit it was written. Regards John Martin |

There is no misconception about Canadians speeding. I am passed constantly on the interstate by vehicles with Canadian plates. You sped, you got caught. Be a man and quit acting like you were stopped for your plates.
At 74, I'm quite sure your reflexes are not what they used to be so you have even more reasons to drive 65-70, not the usual 80 plus I see canadians drive. |
