I Know You,
Like you I also know people. Many people. Poker Machines No Poker machines aside the old administration while Cole was Mayor allowed the drug trade to escalate and get out of hand. Police Officers using drugs. Police officers selling drugs. You mean to tell me that the Mayor wasn't aware of this???? A great pair of blind eyes to say the least. I have been TOLD (but never tried to confirm)that it's the same blind eyes that allowed the Ford dealership in Mon City to dump their oil down the storm sewers on mnay occassions as opposed to properly disposing of it. The reality is that something could have and should have been done about the drugs in Mon City by the man elected to do the right thing and make a difference. He failed miserably. Those are the facts and the real issues at hand. As long as the drug trade is permitted to continue the next generation is in for disappointing times. |

Well stated and I agree with you (about the drug problem). And it is no secret that Jim McCune didn't like the old mayor. So I doubt that Cole was doing any favors for him. The drug problem is a huge issue. I find it terrible that one of the first comments out of the new police chief is "every town has a drug problem" (heard that with my own ears). His first action as chief is to enforce the 10 o'clock curfew? Give me a break. And as for the new mayor, well if you think that cole and mendicino were bad, wait until these two show their true colors. Campaign promises are one thing, keeping them is another. |
I personally feel that the new Mayor lacks the smarts and the guts to make things better. People wanted a change simply beacause most grew tired of all of the BS with the old Mayor and Chief so we ended up with what we now have. Maybe not better but consider it a welcomed change of scenery. As for the new Chief? It was a bad decision appointing Tempest. I have no issue with Tempest as a person however he is in his twilight years regarding senority on the force and will do whatever possible to not make waves and get his pension. The smart move would have been hiring an experienced law enforcemnet person with little or no ties to Mon City as the new Chief. Well stated about the 10:00pm curfew. Another joke is appointing G Langan as the new K-9 officer. The dog will end up in rehab. |

You sound like a pretty level headed individulal, Resident. I am not a fan of the anonymity of the internet for issues like this, but at least it is an outlet for dialog. I appreciate that you stressed that you were TOLD, but never confirmed what you were told. Far to many times people believe everything they hear without even an ounce of proof to back it up. My belief is unless you heard it from the person in question, then don't believe it. Anyway, have a great day :)

I Know You, Thanks for the kind words. I agree too many folks repeat what they believe to be the case but in reality is far from accurate. I see no sense in that. One needs to be able to defend what they say. The faceless paper issue is not my favorite way of communicating but this site does serve a purpose. I enjoy reading what's on others minds regardless if I agree with them or not. Have a good evening IKY. |

WOW! Some of you are really out of touch with what is going on in the city. Our ex mayor was crooked as the day is long. We all know that and the deal with the TEA House is a fine example. However, for any of you to tout Art Doty as a great council person is a farce. Art is nothing but a back stabbing, lying politician. I have personally seen him fire employees that have done nothing wrong. He fired them because of hear say, not the facts. Everyone complained when our ex mayor did nothing for this city. Our new mayor is off and running with new ideas - and all you people do is bitch and moan. I would like to inform everyone that I have been complaining about a drug dealer for the the past two years. Our ex mayor informed me that he would do nothing because I had no proof. It is now March. I have complained to our new mayor about this same problem in late Jan. of 08. Last week DEA agents stormed his house and arrested him! Example: Old mayor - 2 years of complaining = nothing done, New mayor - 2 months of complaining = dirt bag off the street and in jail. The moral to that story is that is just because you might no hear about it or see it, doesn't mean that its not happening. You all are worring about petty issues instead of serious matters. If you want to see what the new mayor is capable of then go to his office or city council meeting, and demand that something be done with our community's failing ambulance service. They have eliminated shifts and have been turning calls over everyday. Last week there was a Rostraver unit in Monongahela 3 times in one day. Think about this for a moment! If you or a loved one needed a paramedic immediately and couldn't get one for 20-30 minutes, would you demand something be done then?
Of course you would, unless you are heartless. Our new mayor is aware of this situation and with more and more concerned citizens that complain about it, maybe it would show all of us what the new mayor is capable of. |

The recent busts had NOTHING to do with the old Mayor. For someone who thinks they are in touch your coming up shy here. The DEA and the FBI have been building a case against the drug trade in the Mon Valley in particular Mon City, Monessen, Donora and Charleroi for over two years. More busts will be occuring.
Yes the old Mayor turned a blind eye to all dealings when it came to drugs and did nothing to help eliminate the situation however this bust had NOTHING to do with the new mayor or old mayor. You say he's off and running? Where is he running too? Enforcing the curfew? Apponiting a new chief? Granted it has only been a little shy of three full months for him in office so the jury is still out however he is very slow out of the gate. He claimed that we would be reading weekly in the Police blotter on all of the criminal activity that was brought before the magistrate in Mon City. That has been hit or miss at best. Surely not a weekly occurance yet we all know that Magistrates Wilson's office is full each week and that there is crime in Mon City happening daily. As for the EMS situation. Surely not a good one however everyone in Mon City is aware of it. Why should people have to complain before the new Mayor acts? He is the boss of the town as are all mayors. If he isn't in the know he should not be in office. If he wasn't in the know before the election he should not have ran for office. Tell me, in eleven weeks what major thing has the new mayor done? If you jnow of anything please share. * Appointed the new police chief. What has that accomplished? How has that made Mon City a better place to date? * I'm at #2 and I'm already out of things to list....... Oh yea the curfew. Now that's something major ........not really So far everything is status quo in Mon City. The drug dealers comtinue to operate. They know that the other bust took place. Hasn't seemed to curb their dealings and they don't seem to be running scared. I was not a fan of the old mayor by a long shot. So far I have seen nothing that causes me to jump on the new mayor's band wagon either. I hope I'm wrong however and will gladly eat crow if I begin to see major changes occuring for the better. By the way the word on the street is that a current Mon City police officer very recently tested positive for illegal drugs in his system. He is suppose to get a suspension but will retain his position. Do you think the Mayor will see to it to have that reported in the Valley Independent? Smart money says you'll never read a thing about it. Remember the fact based movie in the 1970's "Walking Tall" with sheriff Buford Pusser? That is what this city needs. Not necessarly the beatings with his stick he dished out (although they may be warranted) but total aggressive dedication to getting the city cleaned up without worrying about being politically correct. The bottom line. What is the new mayor prepared to do? |

Up the Creek, you really don't know the whole story pertaining to the Tea Room. As stated before, I don't know the ex mayor personally, but I do know the son and his wife. They actually video taped every meeting that they went to on getting the zoning updated. You (and everyone else) might have a different opinion on that subject if you saw the tapes.
And again, Resident, you are making total sense with your comments. The only thing different now is that Caudil, Kepics, and Doty don't have to hold the real council meetings at McDonalds anymore :). Kepics hasn't done anything ground breaking yet....give a person a rope and they can either make a ladder or hang themselves...time will tell. |
IKY, Thanks for the comments. I do not know about the Tea Room> I undersnatnd that there was some controversey but never really paid that much attention. I have been told by a reliable source that the old Mayor's son's store front properties on 2nd Street Mon City were all worked on without a permit from the city until a few peole complained then a permit was obtained. Look the reality is nepotism and favortism is everywhere. What's the old cliche "it's not what you know but who you know" In some fashion we all have benefited from it or a facsimily of it somehow. Getting a ticket to go away. Getting a better seat in a restaurant because you know the manager. Getting a better cut of meat from the butcher because your friends. Yes maybe all are simple examples but you get my drift. Personally I'm ok with that and have no issue if the old mayor did throw his son a bone as long as the old mayor was taking care of the business but he wasn't. Folks, here's the deal. I was not a fan of the old mayor by a long shot however he's gone. Let him remain gone. We need to direct our attention to the new mayor and see if he is going to be beneficial for Mon City. To date he is slow out of the gate and has done little if nothing to cause a positive impact since is taking over the office. I personally think he lacks the smarts and more importantly the guts to do the right thing but time will tell. I hope I'm prove wrong. |

I tried to warn people before but no one would listen. Mayor Kepics is full of self pride. Pride cometh before a fall. And I'm sure he will fall. His moral character is the worst. The things I could tell........................

Your Mayor Kepics was in Tri Community. You really think he will shut down one of his old haunts. Come on now. Oh and as for drugs talk to his steps about that one. Lol so sad you folks voted someone in that rode his daddy and uncles name into office. I can not believe the gullability on the mon valley. God help you all. |

Read in the Valley that the chief got a raise. How nice. For what? Didn't think we had any money. Again this was all done outside of the monthly meeting. Seems they hold back the things that the public would question and then call a "special meeting" later in the week. I know they put ads in the paper (hum, wonder who pays for that) for the meetings, it just seems to me that they want to do everything behind close doors. They are afraid of the public. People need to come to meetings and demand answers. You go and you will see for yourself what a joke this mayor and his sidekicks (caudill, doty) are.

You got it right!! I know for a fact it was on his dad's and uncles name. I have known the family (closely) for over thirty years. If people really knew him, they never would have elected him. His moral character is terrible. Unless there has been a major change, he is still the same man he has been for the past umpteen years. Didnt take very good care of his first family nor his mother in latter years. Its a shame.... |

I totally agree moncity. Its time that the citizens demand that a new EMS provider is put in place in the city. One that is ran professionally, not from one woman who likes to line her own pockets at the expense of our citizens lives. |
