On March 19th, Martin Kemper gave a presentation at Grace United Methodist Church for our Girl Scout Troop #745 during our meeting as part of our Interest Project “All About Birds.” Mr. Kemper was invited to come to talk to us as part of our Interest Project,“All About Birds.”

Mr. Kemper, of Washington County Conservation, has been interested in birds since he was a boy. He shared his information display which details approximately 70 wild birds in our region. After sharing stories of bird rescues and funny nest areas, he told us how birds are loosing their habitats. He stated that within 50 years, global warming will have a greater impact on the birds habitats.

When we asked Mr. Kemper how we could help protect the birds, he responded suggesting that we conserve our resources and recycle. By recycling, we give back to the environment and reduce the amount of trash. Mr. Kemper replaced all the light bulbs in his house with low energy bulbs with extended life and 36% reduction in electricity usage.

After Mr. Kemper’s presentation, our Troop has been inspired to work on our next Interest Project,“Eco Action.”
