I do like the name change but I do think that Daytona Beach State College sounds and works better.

How much are all these name changes costing the school and tax payers? Didn't they just change their name last year?

When are they going to change everything over...all the letter heads still say DBCC...the website is still DBCC.edu ...The computers in ASC still say DBCC on the background...They're still selling DBCC sweaters...they need to change everything over! I don't care if they call it DBC or DSC...Anything is better then calling it a community college!!!! But does Daytona STATE College make any sense???

Looks like they managed to take the community out of the community college. I wonder how all of the 2+2 programs are going to fare when DBCC starts competing with UCF and Riddle across the street.

I don't like Daytona State College. I think Daytona Beach College would have been better. But the real issue is everytime I try in look in the catalog it redirects me to the new home page, which is still the old homepage and I am getting no where, with it being State or Community at this point!

Is Daytona the 57th State? Check with Sage Obama, he might know!

It makes no sense for it to be named Daytona State College. Daytona is not a state...how about we change UCF to Orlando State University? No, that would not make sense! That is great that the college has become a 4-year school, but whoever decided to change the name to Daytona STATE College clearly needs to go further his education.

It is called State because the state legislature authorized ten such colleges to be pilot programs and leave being a two year school to a four year school. Therefore they will all be called State Colleges

I was wrong in the number , here is what the Orlando Sentinel reported
Florida's Legislature created the new system to focus on undergraduate education leading to bachelor's degrees.

Nine of the state's 28 community colleges are in a pilot program that allows them to change their names while a task force figures out how the new state colleges will operate

As much as I like the school, the new name sounds like jail and maybe they should have looked toward some policy changes to go along with the new name.

Daytona State College is NOT a good name...allow me to tell you "why". Daytona is NOT a "STATE." For an example, the "University of Memphis" was once called "Memphis State University" and other univeristies laughed at the name. They mocked the school's name and said "you don't want to attend a university that doesn't know the difference between a "state" and a "city". The University finally changed the name to Univeristy of Memphis...the Univeristy of Houston experienced the same problem...DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE

I AGREE...IT IS A POOR CHOICE FOR A "COLLEGE". IT SHOULD BE "DAYTONA COLLEGE" OR "DAYTONA BEACH COLLEGE"...EVENTUALLY, THEY WILL CHANGE IT TO THE "UNIVERSITY OF DAYTONA".
"SPRUCE CREEK" IS CORRECT ABOUT MEMPHIS STATE AND HOUSTON STATE...I CAN REMEMBER THOSE DAYS...BOTH INSTITUTIONS CHANGED TO THE "UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS" AND THE "UNIVERISTY OF HOUSTON". BEFORE THEY WERE UNIVERSITIES THEY WERE CALLED MEMPHIS STATE COLLEGE AND HOUSTON STATE COLLEGE AND IT DID NOT HELP THEIR REPUTATION.
