This festival is a waste!! This is a huge missed opportunity for our town to cash in on some much needed tourist money. This festival used to be a blast!! Usually things get better with time not worse!!! Get rid of the committee and start fresh..if you are on the committee and reading this, do yourself and everyone else a favor and resign.

if you don't like it then don't go. but you don't have to criticize it. people talk about nothing going on for the festival, then criticize everything that does. how hipicritical.

Who is paying for the gas, surely it isn't paid for by the money brought. Kids love matchbox cars also.

This post is just like all the others. Just a bunch of people setting on their butts whineing and complaining and not enough gumption to get involved.

i agree the fire parade is the only thing that we still have for the festival those men and women work hard to show their pride in what they have worked for, that is a lesson many in this county could learn from. so go out and support the only part of the water festival we really have left and then lets get working on new blood and events for next year there have been some great ideas on here and thats more than i can say for the present festival.

Would a fishing tournament work? With three rivers and a lake and some of the best bass fishing around it might succeed. Have different age classes, men's division, womens division, team division and something special for the kids. Charge a resonable entry fee to cover any expenses such as prizes, trophies, etc. If it were advertised and promoted, it might attract fishermen from a wide area of WV and beyond. A water festival after all should focus on water related events.

The Beckley paper had a large pull out section with all the events. The problem from this post is everyone wants to complain and say what they would do but it is easier to complain than get involved. Also, before joining the complainers be informed about activities and what is going on. And for all the ones that think $16,000.00 can do so much, sit down, develop a budget (including fireworks) and see what you can do. I am not on the committee and really don't know anyone that is. I enjoy the events. The alternative would be nothing to do this week. The state fair is the same thing every year but thousands still go.

I don't live in Raleigh County and have never seen a Beckley paper close to where I am. I didn't post to be a complainer but thought I was suggesting an idea. Gee, try to be helpful and get blasted for it. It's no wonder people gripe about Hinton. I was born and grew up in Hinton-spent a lot years there-moved to an adajent county for a better job. With some of the prevailing attitudes in the area, I don't plan to move back. I care deeply about Hinton & Summers County-still have family there that own property and businesses. Have a nice day in stagnant Hinton.
