Tip Up Town has become a disgrace to the community with the heavy drinking and countless arrests that take place. It won't surprise me if the community doesn't support it any more. My opinion and of many others. Most of us just leave town. Let's clean it up.

Too bad. Move to another town then. This event brings snowmobilers, families and fun. It is not all drinking.

It would be too bad to see Tip-up-town come to an end. But with today's economy, who'd be suprised. Take a good look around town. It seems there's more "for sale" signs than businesses or people for that matter. The town has lost it's image and appeal.Resturants and resorts that made Houghton Lake the place to get away from the city life are becoming too commercialized.I don't need to drive 200 miles from my home down state to go to Wal-Mart or a Quality Inn. I have that and more in Livonia and Northville. Local resturants with that neighborly welcoming appeal "burn" down and never re-open.I enjoyed Tip-Up-town before I bought snowmobiles and even more so after I bought them. But there's pleanty of more snow elsewhere in Michigan where I can take the family. Oh how we miss Chet n Em's, Carters and Randall Lumber. If Houghton Lake loses Wal-Mart and Home Depot you may as well close up the town as well.

You should be happy that people come from all over to support the event. How else could the city generate a huge amount of money that it does in two weekends? If you don't like it, stay home and look at your 4 walls like you do every other day, or come out and get some fresh air with the rest of us.

Just shut Tip Up Down down and have a Bud Bash every other weekend at the Limber Lost like they do in the summer. Without the beer tent no one would come to that joke at Houghton Lake.

Right on queue!

It never fails, every year, after TUT, in the summer, and in October, the local press play the “jeopardy card”.

My 5 & 6 year old girls, my wife & I, and our extended family had an absolute BLAST both weekends. We stayed ON Houghton Lake with the TUT grounds in plain view across the Lake. We did not see ONE drunken person. We made a game of it,“where’s the TUT drunks” and still did not locate ONE. We rode on the trails to St Helens, Gaylord, Elbow Lake, and on Houghton Lake with 10 others, both weekends, and we did not see ONE idiot.

Reports said that button sales were up from last year. Last year was reported as the best TUT in 5 years. Houghton Lake just passed an ORV/ATV ordinance that encourages access to the lake. See you next year, I’ll bring the beer! Put the jeopardy comment away, and please take a POLAR DIP!

Sincerely,
Trunk Slammer 369

The snow has come and we are ready for TUT. The trails are calling BUT stay off the lake - there is still open water out there! Be safe, spend money at our local business and have fun!!!

I just back from tip up town last night and had a good time. I went last year and it was better because of the snow conditions. The problem with the town are the local business people or lack of them. Not at one time did anyone at any business ask us if we were up for TUT, and where nice enough to say thanks for supporting our town. I spent over 600.00 up there and so did 3 other guys we went with. All you hear is how bad things are up here and on and on. Trail permits went up to 45.00 too. Didn't see any groomers either. You have drinking every weekend any. I drink but not on a snowmobile when up there. The money tree is gone in Michigan and Ohio, no more automaker money. Ask the unions to support it now.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Virgo

You're feeling restless and need to introduce as much variety into your day as possible. However, you'll want this to be on your own terms, and you certainly won't like it if plans are changed without your consent or you feel you've lost control of the situation. Try to take everything in your stride, otherwise you'll end up feeling exhausted and frazzled.
