Looks like Mr. Walton will be coming into the Rogers County Sheriff's Office in January of 2009. Whether we like it or not, it is just way things turned out. I for one will be watching him very closely. I want to see what, if any, ideas he brings to the office that makes our county safer. I want to see who he brings into the office with him, such as his Undersheriff, jail administrator, etc. Programs....Crimestoppers is a one person deal, there are only 2 Rogers County schools that are not inside a city limits, criminal apprehension program......Not sure about much of anything else from his campaign other than he didn't want to do anything in haste. He didn't want any type of special weapons and tactics team, traffic enforcement, or other "Big City" type programs. I would hope that others would also be watching to see how Mr. Walton acts when he is being watched. It was easy to campaign with non-commital statements and promises but soon it will be time to produce.......and I think that alot of folks will be watching.

I know and have worked with Mr. Walton, at the TPD, for many years. Couldn't believe it when the election results came in and Scott won the election. If the voters of Rogers County only knew what I, and most of the TPD officers already know. The election was a shame. It will be very interesting to watch Scott in a lead role, which he has never done in his entire career at Tulsa. Seems his claim to fame in Tulsa is the Crimestoppers assignment. You have to read a teleprompter once a week and talk to some reporters the rest of the week. When the tips come in, to the call center in Canada, the tips are forwarded to Tulsa and Scott would deal them out like a dealer in a card game. He had nothing to do with the solve rate of the crimes. Absolutely nothing. I will be watching Scott, no doubt about it. The good thing, at least his squad mates at Tulsa will now have an officer at work to back them on calls. Scott sure hasn't been there in years.

Hope Scott does more at the Rogers County Sheriff's Office than he has done at the TPD. He worked lots of assignments at Tulsa, but they only lasted a couple of years each for him. The longest was Crimestoppers....and why would he give up his TV time and newspaper time when he is going to run a political campaign? Does that make sense? He would be seen and heard on all of the stations in Northeast Oklahoma on a weekly basis, but he says he gave it up to run for office. Could it be that now retired Chief of Police Dave Been left (his good friend), and the incoming chief quickly replaced Scott because no one could find him? There are lots of eyewitnesses to Scott's devotion to duty at Tulsa, and I am one of them. He talks a great story but doesn't produce any product. Don't get me wrong, Scott is a good guy, funny and seems to always be smiling, but when it comes to working.....well I hope his work ethic in Rogers County is better than it is in Tulsa. We will see......

Any Tulsa PD officers care to comment on Mr. Walton's abilities and/or professionalism in his career with the TPD? Rogers County citizens might be very interested. Who better can comment on a person's abilities to do their work than the co-workers that are there day in and day out. I for one would love to hear some comments from officers who have worked with Mr. Walton.

Oh, Abby you see I moved from Rogers county so it really has no effect on me. But, I do feel sorry for those that live in Rogers county. I am sure that it eats at several citizens of Rogers county and I do not blame them one bit for keeping there eye on Mr. Walton. Those that voted him in just may live to regret it.

Maybe Mr. Walton will decide to do the right thing, only time will tell.

WOW, You don't have ANYTHING going on in your life right now that you have to spend so much time trying to run down a man who hasn't even taken office yet? Good to know that even though "you have moved from Rogers County" that you feel it is necessary to complain about a County you "supposedly" no longer live in. I mean. It is truly because you feel "bad" for the residents and not a personal grudge against Walton for some reason, right???......

I do not know Mr. Walton. I do have a lot of friends and family that still live in Rogers County. Yes, I do feel bad for the residents, if Mr. Walton is going to carry the same torch as Prather.

Obviously Abby knows Scott. But so do I. I have worked around Scott for over 20 years at TPD. In all of the time that I have known him, he has been fun to be around, normally always has a smile, always has a story to tell that will bring a smile, and for the most part, he is a really nice guy. But......when it comes to working that is another story. Scott starts off real strong and then fades quickly. Went into K-9 and did good but suddenly left the unit. SRO for a period of time but suddenly left. Horse Patrol and left after a short time. Working with and around him in patrol, he was really bad about not answering the radio. He usually worked graveyard shift and slept most of the night. This is not opinion, this is fact. Was there......So Abby, go ahead and tell your story and I will tell mine. I hope Scott does well but I guess only time will tell.

Scott got lots of beauty sleep working the graveyard shift. It was common knowledge that at around 2:00a.m., forget about Scott being there to help because he was down for the night. His racing took the priority and that was all there was to it. Scott worked day shift patrol during his campaign and he was never at work, just asked his co-workers there. Why should Scott start working now after he has done nothing for the past 26+ years?

I've never run for sheriff so not sure what you are talking about. You obviously have your own agenda which has nothing to do with what Scott has done in his professional career in the past, or should I say, is doing right now at TPD. You obviously also don't know any TPD officers or you too might have a few questions to ask. No one here is crying, only hoping that Scott will do better than our current sheriff. Scott ran on the platform of carrying the torch of Prather so I'm not sure why you are so adamant about concerns that are being posted. Could it be that Abby is our current sheriff posting comments? I doubt it but you just never know, do you!

Just wondering.....many of the posts appear to come from people who work with/around Scott or at least know him to some degree. Good comments or bad, at least they might know something from first hand observations. This would be good info to know so when Scott is sworn in, and becomes the sheriff, we can watch to make sure that history does not repeat itself. A sheriff has to be the leader, not a follower or a watcher. Many of the posts say that Scott does a good job of following and/or watching, but haven't heard much about his leadership skills. Does anyone have any info on his leadership skills that they would like to share? The citizens of Rogers County deserve more than they have received in the last 12 years and holding the sheriff elect accountable is every citizen's duty. If your county commissioner is not doing his job, would you not say something? Why is the sheriff any different? Anyone have a comment on this?

Back in the 1980's it was run by the lady in charge of the Citizen's Crime Commission who constantly complained about her small budget. Last I heard she moved on as a State Representative. I guess the program is supposed to be a stepping stone. Channel 8 ran the skits back then.

Did you see Hester's statement in the Tulsa World about solving the five year old murder case?

"Solving a cold case of this magnitude is really big for my department," Hester said. "To solve a case that's almost 5 years old and not only find the victim but also make the arrest is a big win for not only the family but law enforcement."

How long had that wino in the Rogers County jail been trying to confess and get it off his chest?

It is understandable that the drive to get Walton in office to deter any investigation of corruption should have taken precedence over any trivial murder confession.

Recovery of body ends mother's hope

Sims said that after her son disappeared, she visited the Sheriff's Office each day hoping for information.

"They said he ran off," she said. "I don't know if they ever quit looking for him. Then we started looking for him. Something kept telling me to go to Winganon, where he was found, but we never found anything. But we just kept looking every time I would hear a lead."

Daily Horoscope for January 8

Leo

Why are you still fighting, Leo? Everyone else went home a long time ago, but you're still here pounding your fists on the table. Although you don't want to admit it, accepting defeat may be your most practical option at this point. Sometimes it's just easier to move on than to keep up the fight. When you're forced to restructure, at least you have a chance to redefine. YouÕl get the opportunity to start with a clean slate, so use it to your advantage.
