I want to know how Wilson was planning on "working with him" on the properties. If it was to be anything like when the city was turning water off BEFORE they changed the ordinances then that is no help at all.
I can say that the workings of the "city" seems a little shady at times. We were charged with a reconnect fee when we had the water bill changed over into our name. No deposit, just a reconnect fee. Additionally, the water being turned off for failure to follow "ordinances" was being done prior to July which is when the city ordinance was changed.
Cleaning up Greenbrier is a great idea; I'm behind it 100%. Let's find a way to do it consistenly with ALL properties and not focus on certain groups or areas.

I think its ridiculous for the mayor to say that anyone who continuously gets into trouble over their own property will get thier water turned off. If they pay the bill, that has nothing to do with it

I agree. However, if you request a copy of the city ordinance laws regarding the codes you will see that the ordinance was voted in last July.
We were threatened with that same action (losing our water) if we didn't do what the city said needed to be done. That was prior to July.
Please, feel free to respond to any of my other posts in "City of Greenbrier".

Yes, we've had some bad stories just since I moved here 6 years ago; I won't mention the things I've experienced personally. I am truly ready to do something to clean up this small town and give it a reason to be proud again. It will take some serious work but it can be done.
Slide over to the topic I started ( http://www.topix.net/forum/city/greenbrier-tn... ) and jump in. I'd love to see a few people who care about SOMETHING join in.

I think if you own your property noone should have he right to tell you what to do on it.But on the otherhand you should have enough self respect to keep your property up to good standards. But it should not be leagal to turn someones water off for not mowing there grass or whatever else they do on their own property.Just goes to show you we do not live in a free country anymore. They can do anything they wantto get your money.

I sure as h*ll didn't vote for him! Unfortunately not enough people voted for the "other guy". Don't assume that those of us who have an issue with the Mayor voted him in - you will most likely make an a** out of yourself.

Thats easy to say until some low class idiot moves in with his 5 pitbulls, 3 junk cars, knee high bug and snake filled grass, and 6 half wit kids making you and your other neighbors life a living hell.
My place looks good. It represents the huge investiment of money and time that I've pumped into it. It represents what I want my children to consider normal. I keep my place nice, and so do my neighbors. We do this for ourselves and each other.
I have ZERO patience for some inbred yahoo to move in and force me to live with their slovinlieness, their laziness, their lack of initative and sense of decency and responsibility. I'm not going to spend my life looking at someones elses junk, dealing with somone elses crap.
I'm glad that there is a recourse to deal with the low class. A LEGAL recourse. That thrills me.
The law doesn't allow me to put a whippin on those that I disagree with. If I can't do that, I need a LEGAL recourse that I can pursue.
I agree that they should keep their properties up,but gettig their water turned off when they have paid it.That is just not right. They should fine them but they should not have their water turned off.If people stand for this it won't be long before they start finding a way to tell you what kind of car ou can park in front of your house or what you can plant in your yard.My best friends husband drives a machanics truck because of the neighborhoo they live in he had to make a special driveway in the back of his home just to park his work truck.

News Flash....I totally disagree with you.LOL I so want to agree with you however, If any person owns the land...it is thier land to do whatever they please. I feel if they are "junking" up the neighborhood...It should be dealt with on a more personal level. Not by the Gubment.

The bottom line to this, is keep the yard looking nice. It hurts the value of others property to have a junkie mess. Even if you have a one room skack or live in a trailor, which I did for most of my life and you keep your lawn up and keep out the junk, your place can look better then a big mansion down the road that is overgrown and has junk eveywhere.Everyone should try and keep their place looking decent. Now, if you lived there 1st, and someone moves in next door then want to fuss about your place, well tough, get over it. You should search out your neighborhood before buyig. Out in the country, 31W, on the old road, this subdivision moved in. Alot of nice new houses. A junk yard was right beside them, been there for years. The new people too him to court, the judge had no pity for them, he told them this other man had been there for over 25yr.They knew it before they builded those big nice very expensive homes. The judge made the man get a junkyard salvage permit, that was it.

In greenbrier you cant even build a house on a lot big enough to build one on unless you are a weaver or friends with weaver(sircy)..it would make the city actually look better..generate more money in taxes & hook up fees but no such luck..like someone stated before even a trailer can look nice..its true..what wrong with a trailer in greenbrier also..as long as its a nice looking one & not junk..why not?

There is nothing wrong with a trailer, a one-room shack or a nicely built house. The point is that one needs to take enough pride in their home and try to take care of where they live. If they can't do that then they need to move somewhere that the people around them don't care enough to complain.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Gemini

A little give and take goes a long way, so try to be flexible and malleable when dealing with others. It will also pay to ask people what they think rather than to make sweeping assumptions on their behalf, because you could be in for a surprise. A child may have some interesting information for you, or they could make a statement that really sets you thinking.
