BPD Needs Alot
|
I know as a certified officer I would not take the BPD test becuase the officers are way behind on the pay scale compared to the Raleigh Co. Sheriff's Department. One would think the new chief of police would have that as top priority on his list. Plus the biggest deterrant is that of having to live in Beckley city limits. Beckley is to small to live in when you arrest the people living there also.

They may be behind on the pay scale but they have frequent promotions tests and alot of OT. They also have a retirement program that many of the deputies would MUCH rather have.
One of the biggest problems that I find with BPD is the public has no respect for them. They are spoken to like school children by many and actually tolerate it. Granted there may be those in RCSD that people do not respect but by golly they don't put up with the nonsense that BPD does.
As far as living in city limits, I had heard they were going to lift that limitation. Did they decide against it?

Did they decide against it? they did dont have to live in the City they changed it last week u just have to live in Raleigh County but my problem look at all the police officers that had to sell there houses and move into the City prior to them changing the requirements and the big problem i think is the administative from Mayor down they dont take up for there men or take care of them and now they are so short handed and you have police officers leaving as fast as they can hire them and they have already lost alot of experience the last few years

They are overworked and underpaid! Risk their lives every day for each and every one of us...they need to be paid the same as state police cause they get the worst calls! If ya live in Beckley you must agree!

i have a good friend that has been at Beckley Pd for a long time but the problem is unless your in the click you dont get treated fair once the chief puts his boys in the the drug unit or the detective unit and keeps them there and the other officers dont have a chance in anything but uniform ask any officer how long has the officers in these units been there and whats the chance of getting into one of these units if a officer wanted to 99.999 percent they never work anything but the road ask any brass that has been there for years see what the chance is

But folks were aware that the problem with BPD and as well as the state police is BPD has a quota of at least 30 tickets a month. Now It might have changed to 20 but I think it is still 30. Nad the SP have to have so many "contacts a month" so there ya go. Thats why there is so many ticket writers. I know the sheriff's dept does not have a quota since the Moore admin. But you will always have guys who enjoy writing tickets.

also I failed to mention that If BPD officers do not meet their quota they are written up. So they are between a rock and a hard place.
