I have lived in Palatka for 50 years and I love this sleepy little town. I have lived in other places, but returned here because this is where we wanted to raise our children. The ignorance and redneck mentality of so many of the people here never ceases to amaze me. The people of this town who have jumped on the Jeff Hardy bandwagon just because so many others have, is just ludicrous. You people need to do your research and homework. Don't make your decision about who to vote for based on what someone else has told you. Find out the facts yourself. Jeff Hardy is about as qualified to run the Big Business of the Sheriff's Office as I am. Having worked with Mr. Hardy, I have first-hand experience with his extreme arrogance and his inexperience. Head of the Resource Officers--how does that give him the experience and knowledge to be our Sheriff. Yes, Mr. Buckles "created" a position for Mr. Hardy and then he called himself Chief of Police of Putnam County Schools that we absolutely did not need nor afford. Jeff did absolutely NOTHING in that position other than use his time to mount his campaign for sheriff. Many school employees begged him for help with our truant students and he did absolutely nothing!! I understand that Dean Kelley has angered many people because he wouldn't look the other way for them. He also angered "monied" people in Palatka by not giving them bids on the cars for the deputies and other things, but he did what was right within the means of the budget. It makes me sick to think that Jeff Hardy will win this election because so many uneducated people in Putnam County are going to vote for him. Well, you will get eexactly what you deserve.

Ticked off tax payer wrote: I recently asked a deputy at McDonalds if they would please patrol some of the more remote areas in West Putnam Co. Their answer was "Yea we can take a ride out that way" Well that was months ago and still haven't seen a patrol car. What Tickes me is Dean has on all his cars "Your Sheriff's Dept" Well he and all his people are working for us as tax payers. We are paying their salary. They all are working for us as tax payers. If they won't do the job, "GET RID OF THEM" The reports are from some of the deputies are "My car will get dirty driving those roads" . HELLO!!!!! What about all the tires and trash being thrown out on the county roads. Maybe if we had some more patrols on the "DIRT" roads we might not have this problem. ENOUGHT IS ENOUGH. GET DEAN and his half whit crew OUT and let's get Jeff Hardy in where he should have been 4 years ago and get Putnam County a respectable place to live. Oh you mean your little bit of money you pay gives you the right to your own personal Deputy.I bet you don't even pay taxes. Further more If you have never been in Law Enforcement keep your mouth shut. My partner was joking about the car. How about following me one night on the road instead of drinking beer and watch wrestling. One minute i am chasing crack heads and the next minute I am doing cpr on someones kid who decided that life was not worth living. You make me sick with your garbage gripe.

Dean is just as much as a snake in the grass as some of the people he employs! He doesn't hold the department up to any integrity because he has NONE! He fires a hardworking and dedicated volunteer to suffice his own measley ego(which isn't much to brag about)Dean allows correctional officers to take inmates home now to rehabilitate! I know the wife of one who got the boot so he could bring home a well known drug offender with over 80 cases totaled from 4 different counties. You call that experience? You call that leadership? I hope that Jeff Hardy is elected and I will vote for him and I know that he will bring back to the Sheriff's Department honesty, values and responsibilty!!! GO HARDY!!!!!

Last time Dean ran, he got campaign money from Lieutenants of the Taylor Douglas's Sheriff Department. These Lieutenants are now Majors. Taking contributions from members of the Sheriff's Department to someone running for Sheriff should be a conflict of interest. Promoting those Lieutenants to Majors doesn't pass the smell test. If Dean Kelly wins the election this time, are we going to have Generals??? Sunshine law viotations that I took concerning the Putnam County Sheriffs Department to John Tanner's State Attorneys office could have stopped abuse of citizens rights. But, I was told by the States Attorneys office, they can file charges against who they want to. I filed a couple of complaints against a couple of police officers at the Putnan County Sheriffs Office. These complaints are subject to Florida's Sunshine Laws. When I went back to get copies of these complaints, they couldn't be found. "They fell through a crack", I was told. The States Attorneys Offices could care less. A restaining order for one of my relatives who doen't live with me was delivered to my house at about 2 o'clock in the morning by several police cars and several officers. Of course, the siren was used as they left to alert our residential neighborhood they were there. We later found out the order was signed by the judge in the early afternoon. This was done just to discredit me because of my previous complaint. I read in the paper this morning that Dean Kelly doesn't have to follow the law because of executive privelege. I seems that Dean Kelly thinks he has to enforce the law but he doesn't have to follow it. Dean Kelly said they put a bullet in the beer keg so they could find out who bought the keg when it was returned. Who in their right mind would return a damaged beer keg lloking for their deposit money back??? The use of a Lieutenant at the front desk at the Sheriff's Office to keep citizen from filing complaints against members of the Sheriff's department is a practice that needs to end. When a Sheriff doen't let a citizen do community service because he doesn't support him for Sheriff means the Sheriff cares more about himself then the community. If there is a job the voters of Putnam County need to do, it is to vote Dean Kelly out.

I don't know how you can call 20 years of law enforcement experience "inexperienced". Is Hardy arrogant? I would agree that at one time, he may have come off that way, but time seasons good police officers. True arrogance can be defined as someone who looks after his own interests for his own benefit and not care who sees it. Who does that remind you of? The "redneck mentallity" you speak of exists at the sheriff's office right now! I think the "beer keg incident" can plainly paint that picture. Jeff didn't get handed a position at the school board, he had to fight for it. He convinced not only the superintendent, but also the majority of the school board who votes on such decisions that the position was needed. They agreed after much debate. He did not designate himself chief of police either. FDLE has only two designations for the head of a law enforcement agency. Chief, or Sheriff. But, to keep from making waves, Jeff elected to designate his job title as "coordinater". Your accusations that Jeff did nothing in that position is wrong. He brought the entire school district up to speed on the nationally recognized NIMS training, wrote policy and procedure regarding the safety of our schools, and dealt with truant isues day in and day out. I don't remember ever seeing a Hardy for Sheriff sign in his office when I was visiting. Beck did lose the bid for the sheriff's office vehicles. That is a fact. But you obviously don't know that the leased vehicles from Beck came in well within budget restraints and was cheaper than buying vehicles from Palatka Ford. But the sheriff had to be inline with all other law enforcement agencies that were using Crown Vics for patrol cars. Now the cars don't have a maintance contract, and they are still rotated out every 4 years. With the lease program, officers recieved a car every 3 years, and the cars were more fuel efficient, and had service plans built into the lease not to mention the fact that it was cheaper to lease the cars than to buy new Ford vehicles (to include the gas guzzler Expedition). Lastly on that subject, does it look as if Beck is hurting for business?? No. Beck has the contracts for multiple police departments and sheriff's offices all over the state of Florida. I'm sure the absence of the Sheriff's Office business isn't hurting their pockets. You did say two things right in your post though. Yes people in this county are going to vote for him, and Yes we will get excactly what Putnam County DESERVES.

voter wrote: <quoted text> And the tooth fairy is true too. Actually, the tooth fairy is true from a folklore point of view. The website " toothfairypillow.net " states the following: QUOTE "The tooth fairy comes when a child has lost a tooth. Commonly, she is very small, and she comes in the middle of the night. The child is to leave the tooth under his/her pillow, so that the tooth fairy can take it during her visit. Once she has taken the tooth, she leaves monetary reimbursement under the pillow, anything from ten cents to a dollar. The teeth are then taken to her tower, and used for her purposes. Many folk cultures marked the loss of a child's baby or milk teeth. Some cultures placed the tooth in a tree or threw it to the sun. Other rituals involved having an adult swallow the tooth or burn it. Even the Vikings had their own ritual called "tooth fee" whereby a small gift was given to a child when its first tooth appeared. Although it varies, children generally lose their first baby tooth between the ages of 5 and 7 years. The lost tooth is then placed under the child's pillow, in a special Tooth Fairy pillow or container. During the night, the Tooth Fairy visits and makes an exchange -- usually monetary -- for the tooth. The Tooth Fairy was an established part of our American folklore by the early part of the 1900s." END QUOTE So in essence, deep in your heart, you must support Jeff for Sheriff. Welcome aboard!!!!

It's obvious that you've read the posts in support of Jeff Hardy and cannot resist the urge to make a lame attempt to discredit him. It won't work, plain and simple. Whatever you post just sounds like an angry Dean Kelly supporter. Angry because every time he opens his mouth his foot fills the void. Angry because Dean filled you with hope and expectations. Angry that you've been let down tremendously by his asinine arrogance and lack of character. Angry that Dean can't seem to conduct himself with common sense. Angry that he isn't going to weasel his way out of the jamb he's worked himself into this time. Jeff Hardy WILL prevail in the August primary and Dean will be THANKED for the endorsement. Dean is his own worst enemy. As well as his few supporters. The real truth will come out about the injustices that have been occurring at 130 Orie Griffin Blvd.(and the Mondex). Keep posting, voter. You're just pulling the ROPE a little tighter around your candidate's situation.
