"Rescuers focused their search on the backside of Alpine Meadows outside the ski resort's boundaries."

"Searchers this morning found two skiers who have been missing since Saturday at a Lake Tahoe resort"

Well, were they found on the backside of Alpine Meadows? Or were they found "at a Lake Tahoe resort" ?

Or both?

Is that "on the tarmac" or do they actually own the Auburn Airport?

Maybe they are onto something, or just on something.

I love the English language.

WASTED??? I think this money was FAR from wasted. They were found weren't they? That being said, I do not think it was WASTED!
Accident's happen, I sure hope if I were to ever be lost in the wilderness that rescuers would try to help find me.
If it were to happen to you, at least we know you wouldn't want any money or time WASTED to try and find you.
Yes, but we haven't been able to identify where they were found: the backside of Alpine Meadows, the lodge at the Tahoe Resort, or at the airport they own in Auburn (on the airport).

I agree with you that the money wasn't wasted. Where I disagree is that this was an accident. This was a stupid move by a couple of thrill seekers that ended up endangering themselves and those that searched for them. This time of the year, specially with the amount of snow we have received the danger of avalanches is great. Perhaps you remember the one a few years back at Alpine Meadows that killed seven people.
Anyway, doing something that I'm having a hard time not to call stupid, endangering others for their selfish adrenaline rush I do believe that all costs associated with this endeavor should be charged to these two gentleman. Like the old saying goes" If you want to dance, you must pay th fiddler".

I mean in general, if someone or more than one person is lost in the wilderness and that is all we know then I think the money is definitely not wasted to try and save their lives.
You're completely correct. We're lucky to have this type of resucue service available.

If you blatently travel outside the boundaries of a ski area and get lost, you should be responsible for any funds used to rescue you i.e. emergency vehicles (helicopters aren't cheap), personnel, lodging for rescue personnel, food, fuel for equipment, etc. Maybe if they were handed a bill, people would realize how serious an offense this is and would think twice about doing the same. It's our tax dollars that cover these expenses and I for one, am tired of paying for the ignorance of others!

It would have only been wasted if they were found in the lodge or on the airport, otherwise I agree.

I agree wholeheartedly. When I inadvertently went out of the boundaries and down the backside at Bear one time back in the eighties, I found myself. I had to cross country a few miles to the lodge over a ski patrol training area, and had to take a bus back to the ski area.

My friends couldn't figure out how I got off a bus rather than getting off a run.

Well, they did go out of the boundaries...Therefore, it is their own stupidity. Watching the news stories on channel 10 and other channels about these skiers, they were overheard talking about going to the backside outside of the boundaries.
