Please help us honor a fallen hero and protect copyright laws in the United States. As you may know by now the band based out of Tucson, Arizona "Awful Truth" released an album entitled "Kill A Cop For God" A photo of fallen Officer Erik Hite of the Tucson Police Department was used as the album cover. It has come to our attention that the photo is property of the Arizona Daily Star. The photo was used without their permission. We believe that freedom of speech is very important, but copyright laws are just as important. We ask that you please sign this petition that is directed to the Arizona Daily Star. We are asking that the band members and ones responsible are sued in a civil court of law. Your assitance in this matter is greatly appreciated. PLEASE PASS ALONG!!! http://www.petitiononline.com/SueTruth/petiti... Thanks, Officer Curtis Penney Chattanooga Police Department Chattanooga, Tn

A dead cop is not a fallen hero. Do I agree with using the photo? NO! Very distasteful and yet it garnered them all the publicity they were looking for.

Mike from Foothill Ranch, CA... You say a dead cop is not a fallen hero. I've included the Wikipedia definition of hero for you. Seems to me to PERFECTLY describe a cop who has given their very life in the line of duty. "...hero (male) and heroine (female) came to refer to characters (fictional or historical) that, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice – that is, heroism – for some greater good...

HAHA! Using wikipedia for your definition of a hero...priceless. i totally agree with mike. a dead cop is in no way a fallen hero. i am truly sorry for his family and friends though. i'm also sorry that this bands myspace has been deleted and their cd not being able to be sold anymore. also, being sued for copyright infringement? this is so excessive for a band doing nothing more than using their freedom of speech. i don't support what they did but i do support their right to do it.

Mike: Not a fallen hero? Really? Someone defending his home and the homes and lives of others is not a hero? Hmmm... I don't think so. The petition doesn't specify the circumstances on why the officer was shot or who he was shot by, but clearly, he was doing his job protecting the public and died doing so.

Wow, why can't a cop be a hero? I was brought up to believe that a hero was anyone. A child can be a hero, a parent, friend, aunt, grandparents, etc. If you were raised with any morals you would understand what and who a real hero is Mike and Corn Man. If you don't think a cop is a hero, you are really misunderstanding the meaning to the word.

What is your definition of a hero? Probably some half wit football player. You should be playing in traffic mate. Idiot.

That officer gave his life defending the GOOD people of society from dirt bags that prey on the innocent. I do not support Awful Truth in the use of that photo. How would you like to be the widow or child of that officer and have your loved ones picture used in that fashion. Police, Fire, EMS, and teachers are all heros. These people deal with the worst of the worst and still continue to do their job on a daily basis. Awful Truth should be sued by the news paper and the family of the officer.

I put on the uniform every day.. I kiss my wife and sons good by every day.... sometimes not knowing if it will be my last hug and kiss. Do i consider myself a hero. No.. Im simply doing what I love and was called to do. I sacrifice myself on a daily basis for people I have never met... Would take a bullet for someone i dont know... Even if it is you Corn HOle or what ever your sign on name was and you too mike. But for you to say a man that lays his life down so others could live is not a hero.... NEXT TIME YOU NEED HELP CALL A CRACK HEAD!! and see how far that gets you. OFFICER HITE YOU ARE A HERO AND WILL BE MISSED!

I am a Federal Agent in Tucson, AZ where this happened. Ofc. Hite was responding to a call where a guy went on a cross-town shooting spree with an AK-47 in a convertible. Ofc. Hite was ambushed and shot in the head. To those who think that Ofc. Hite was not a hero, not only did he die in the line of duty, leaving behind a wife and kids, he was a 20+ year military veteran. There comes a time when morality should outweigh your coveted 'freedom of speech' that this officer ensured you maintained.

You people make me sick. An Officer gave his life in the line of duty, so your sorry ass could be safe. You have no right(s) talking this way about a fallen hero. Someday, you will need a police officer, and I hope I am the one that responds to your emergency.

You can decide if he's a hero or not, ask yourself; what would I expect of your police if someone had fired a rifle into the homes of my loved ones? "Officer Erik Hite succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained the previous day by a suspect who had wounded a Pima County Sheriff's Department deputy. The suspect had fired a rifle into the homes of two neighbors and then fled as the first responding deputy arrived at the location. As the deputy pursued him, the suspect opened fire and wounded him. Members of the Tucson Police Department spotted the vehicle a short time later and continued pursuing it even as the suspect continued to fire at them. The suspect then turned off the main road onto a residential street where he stopped his vehicle and setup an ambush. As Officer Hite turned the corner onto the street, the suspect opened fire from a distance of approximately 80 yards, striking Officer Hite in the head. The suspect continued to flee and wounded another deputy before finally surrendering. Officer Hite was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had served with the Tucson Police Department for 4 years. He is survived by his wife, adult son, 1-year-old daughter, and parents." http://www.odmp.org/officer/19396-police-offi...

What a disgrace. As someone who also works in the emergency services (paramedic), it's no joking matter when someone's killed in the line of duty. "Dark humor" or not, it's an absolute disgrace. "Kill a cop for God" huh? Someone should kill them for God, bet they'd think that was real funny too. There is nothing funny about line of duty death, and trying to capitolize on a cop who gave his life to make sure shits like them are safe at night is an abomination.

The thing about Mike and Corn Man is tat they are probably a lot like this scumbag punk band, that gets attention through there disrespectful conduct. You dont take an everyday hero like a Police Officer, and make a mockery of him or her and expect to get away with it. The recognition of good in this world by the greater majority is presented here, by good people, and they wont stand by and lets this go unresolved.

Eric Hite was not a fallen hero. The man was a douche bag, and died a death he deserved. Second, there was nothing heroic about the way he lived or died. Awful Truth is made up of awesome guys who make great music. I know each one of them personally. I see no reason why they should be judged, JJB specifically, on what their music was about. If you really want to be angry at a band for being anti-police, why not check MDC - Millions of Dead Cops? I'm sure you'd all love them. As for this copyright infringement, what the hell is wrong with all of you? Sure, you could see the picture and it's use as somewhat distasteful, but it IS fully within the First Amendment right of every American citizen to voice his or her own opinions without legal rebuttal. A copy of the picture was technically property of the AZ Daily Star, but if they cared enough to sue, I'm sure they would, without the need for your damn petition. David was right when he said that the use of Hite's photo was a joke. "That's what punk rock is all about...If you don't think it's funny then you don't have to laugh, you don't have to look at the album, you don't have to listen to the song." As disgusting as you may find it, what about the use of Nicky Crane's photo on "Strength Thru Oi!"? The man was an outspoken White Supremacist, and yet his image was being spread world wide? That record is STILL being distributed, even after Crane was jailed for committing a hate crime. Where's your petition to have that stopped, eh?
