Has anyone on here had any dealings with the Perry County Humane Society and what do you think of them as a group or as individuals? I'm gettting the impression from lots of people both from the county and from other rescues that the humane society needs some changes made. Like to hear from all of you. Thanks Linda

We have an adopted pet from Perry County, through the prison's "Second Chance Companions" program. We knew about the animal through an inmate. Yet again, that's back several months. So, I have no idea if things have changed. I'll try to email with PCHS again, and see what I can find out.

I made several calls reporting A family member for animal abuse (horses starving and dogs in dirty conditions) The neighbors of this family member have also tried to report this Abuse. The Humane Agent spent more time telling me about how under funded they were and that township trustrees giving out his home address than to work on helping these animals. I had found foster homes for the animals and we where waiting for him to get in there and do something. I made numerous phone calls to the agent and nothing has been done to this day. I last tried to make contact over 2 months ago once again I left my work and cell number and I have still never heard A thing from him. I understand there is alot of funds needed to
take care of animals in a rescue and had setup these foster homes to help Perry county with the burden. This ABUSE has been going on for years and still nothing is done. They need to remove the agents and get someone that are out for the animals.

So sorry to hear this but this is exactly what I've been hearing via email and the phone from other people. I would like to make some changes to how the org. is ran and how complaints are handled. I do know that they are receiving grants and have tons of dog food so if you have helped to provide foster homes for any of the pets all that is left to do is investigate and they definately have the funds to do that. It is my impression that because the "officer" has a job he is too tired to care about anyones complaints, therefore the animals suffer for that. I would also suggest that you might want to call the Ohio Att. Generals office charitable section to tell your complaint as the PCHS is receiving donations and grants because of thier 501c3 to take care of the animals and complaints and if that is not being done they are the ones who are investigating it at this time. I as well as some other people have called them and know that it is being looked into by them.

Can you give me some insight as to the adoption process they put you through?

I am the director of 2nd Chance Companions and I posted a long letter last week but it never made it so I will reiterate.

My group was called 2nd Chance Companions-SCI pups but now I am no longer affiliated with SCI thanks to PCHS.
Two years ago they came to me begging me to go and talk to the warden about a prison dog program and asked if I would do the animal care part as I am a veterinary technician. I was thrilled to do it and the warden agreed so not only did I take care of the dogs ( between 25-30 ) at the prison, but I started classes for the inmates on canine health care, and Red Cross Pet First Aid. So I decided why not train them in grooming and training so two friends joined me. One a professional groomer, the other an AKC Columbus All Breed dog trainer. We named our group and decided to get a board to get a 501 charity status. Last August we received our IRS tax exempt number and our Ohio registry.
Everything seem to be going well. We graduated over 100 inmates in first aid and health care, placed over 100 dogs. In January I was issued a permanent ID to come and go as I needed. In March the prison decided they didn't want us to come any longer.

Enter my suspicions of PCHS. I had taken care of thier dogs for 2 years but as soon as we got licensed and I started writing grants and getting financial support for our group's program at the prison I was kicked out. It appears PCHS can do it better now. The humane officer can teach pet first aid, see to the training, and they have vet students doing the medical. Although I was told cut backs kept us from going in, it didn't effect PCHS from going in and taking over.

My group also provided heartgard monthly, flea protection, booster vaccines, and I was on call for medical emergencies to determine if the dog needed transport. All PCHS did was give us dogs that were spay/neutered, wormed and initial vaccines. I also provided all the food with a contract my group had at Pedigree.

When I was kicked out I took the food out of the warehouse and I have been giving it to folks in Perry Co who rescue dogs since PCHS gives them no food when they have asked. I also provide food for Hocking Prison, Galia and Vinton county groups.

My group is now working in Bremen and surrounding towns. We are offering spay/neuter clinics for cats, and plan on teaching 1st aid and obedience in our community.

I had asked PCHS to take our name off their web site since I am no longer alouded to take care of the dogs at SCI. They refused. So my board wrote a letter telling them to get it off or we would file a complaint with the State of OHio Attorney General office.

I would like to see the people in Perry County rise up and demand accountability for this organization. I don't believe they have a functioning board and by Ohio Revised Code they would be in violation of Sunshine Law because the public has a right to go to meetings, also all finances are open to scrunity upon request. I don't know how they operate under a 501 c 3 status because I am sure their board is not producing a quorum at meetings if they have them at all. I have talked to a former board member and have been assured the board has no clue on how things are run. This should not be so.

All of you animal lovers down there need to demand accountability and if they won't produce it go to the Attorney General or IRS and complain.

These people need to be taught to play by the rules.

I have washed my hands of them , so good luck.

I REITERATE.....SECOND CHANCE COMPANIONS IS IN NO WAY CONNECTED WITH PCHS, WE ARE DOING NO MEDICAL, TRAINING OR GROOMING OF ANY DOGS IN THE PROGRAM AT SCI. AND NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY....I AM THE FOUNDER OF THE ORGANIZATION OF SECOND CHANCE AND I HAVE THE LEGAL DOCUMENTATION TO PROVE IT. THEY DIDN'T START IT, NAME IT, OR HAVE ANY CONTACT WITH MY 9 BOARD MEMBERS.

GOOD LUCK!!!! GO GET THEM

Wanted to let you know I appreciate your response. I am searching for as many people with opions of the PCHS, because for one I was the person who orginally started and org the PCHS and ran it as president for 4 years until I got burt out and resigned. I've heard alot of complaints about Bev and Jack and have been thinking about running for president again to get things straightend out. I NEVER intended for the humane society to end up like this. My intention was to join together with other people and help animals and educate the public on overpopulation. Not to alinate the public. According to Jack the PCHS is not a public org. so they don't have to tell the public anything and that is not what I intended either. I am very disappointed in what Bev and Jack have done.

It appears that the "Humane Officer" feels certain that he ius considered to be "Law Enforcement".

This is possible however in order to do so, requirements set forth by the Ohio Revised Code need to be followed and abided. I doubt that this has happened and I too feel that they need to acount for everything.

In my instance this has been brought on by their lack of professionalism.

There seems to be an "air" of secrecy amongst the current members, president and humane officer. I feel that this would not be present if they arent hiding anything.

The humane officer likes to badge people and when someone tells him they are calling the law because of how he acts, he likes to say "I AM THE LAW!".

I guess we'll see.

Accountability. Just remember that word if you are in the business of being in business. And if these folks are doing everything right, God bless them. If not? I guess we'll see just who the LAW really is.

From everything I can ascertain from the AG office and lawyers, they are a law unto themselves. Crafty and ahead of it. Unless someone is willing to file a lawsuit against them ( which will take 1000s of dollars ) they appear to be home free. I AM SO UPSET OVER THIS!!!
The AG office will not check them ( I called ),
attorneys want 1000s. We as 501 charity spend money getting licensed from Ohio and IRS then absolutely no one will deal with renagade organizations. Not much point in following laws and licensing is there???
I say raise cane with the IRS and demand an audit. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

I did find out a couple of days ago that the judge who swore in Price (the law) can be kicked out by the same judge who swore him in if you file a complaint with the Perry Count court house.

New Lexatonian you have hit the head on the nail with your observations of the PCHS. They definately are hinding something and are very secerative.

I also found out from a co worker of Bev (so called president) the co worker said she gets Science Diet dog food every other week and Bev's other co workers are getting free dog food as well and none of them are members of the PCHS or do any of them have an foster animals to be eligable for dog or cat food which is given to the PCHS for unwanted dogs and cats. I also know of a woman in Corning who gets free cat food and none of those cats are up for adoption either.

Oh hold your hats folks. Sources in PC have told me that she has fostered out numerous dogs and does not give foster parents food to support the dogs the people have taken in for her. Also Jack had a guy arrested last weekend when he went to take the man's dogs pictures for starvation and the man told hime to get off his property. HERE IS THE KICKER.....THE DOGS WERE PCHS AND THE PEOPLE WERE TRYING TO GET JACK AND BEV TO GIVE THEM FOOD FOR THE FOSTER DOGS THEY HAD DUMPED ON THEM SINCE BOTH HAD LOST THEIR JOBS!!!!!
DOES JACK TAKE STUPID PILLS OR WHAT?
HOW CAN YOU ACCUSE PEOPLE OF STARVATION OF ANIMALS WHEN THE ANIMALS WERE ABANDON BY PCHS ON THESE FOLKS AS FOSTER DOGS THEN IGNORE THE PEOPLES CRY FOR HELP IN THE FORM OF FOOD!!!
HOW CAN YOU ALL GET RID OF THIS OUTFIT?? ARE THEY POWER FREAKS OR SMALL TOWN MAFIA OR WHAT???
WHERE IS ALL THE FOOD GOING THAT THESE PEOPLE GET IF SHE IS NOT HELPING HER FOSTER PARENTS??? IS SHE SELLING IT AT FLEA MARKETS?? CAN IT BE PROVEN? IF SO IT IS FRAUD AND PUNISHABLE.

Hi Jackie just to set the record straight Jack was taking pics of the people personal dogs not he foster dogs. Jack took Walter Reed with him to this house and the home owners could have filed charges on him for trespassing but they won't do it. If people don't fight back nothing can be done about thier actions.

I have attended the pchs meetings and I do believe that these people are crooked. Since day one the only thing Jack has ever asked for is MONEY! Bev always reports adoptions and never has anything to show for it... Also there website www.perrychs.com contridicts alot of things they say.. And for one thing there foster application says that once the dog is in your possesion, the pchs cannot be held reliable if the animal attacks you or someone else??? I believe they are animal hoarders, and theifs!!!

Well Linda you are absolutely right!!! The AG has agreed to do a full investigation. I have already called in and emailed my concerns.
It's time for all of Perry County to help the AG office do their job and then you all can get your HS back and on the right track.
Hooray...the wheels grind slowly but they do grind.
Please inform all interested parties of what is needed.
Yipee!!!

How do you file electronicly, I cannot get the page to load so I am doing a printable form to send in. Maybe that part of the AG site is down, I don't think it is on my end. I have the lawyers name and phone # so I wanted to send it to her attention.
If I cannot do it electronically I will just mail the form I am filling out now.

Never once, have I been able to get them to respond to an animal in need with out calling the newsteam and really making some noise first. I think Bev and Jack both are a joke. I think they are abusing the gov grants and free food to support their own animals and not just the pch animals. They pick and choose which animals they are going to help and if its something that they don't want....they just leave them to starve......I know of at least 8 cats that were starving and they left them.....and when they were questioned as to why they didn't rescue the cats Jack responded "What makes you people think I'm obligated to do anything?" HELLO>>>>dumb ass...You ARE the Humane Officer.. Am I missing something....or does He NOT get it??? I can't wait to get this Humane Society to where it needs to be...IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE ANIMALS.....And where all caring members are welcome. Go get em Lina...You Rock.
