Bill to create 'Eartha Kitt Day' in SC stalls

A push to get the birthday of the later singer and actress Eartha Kitt recognized in the state where she was born has stalled in the Legislature.

I hope the Senate of South Carolina pass the bill to honor the late Eartha Kitt. Many can learn from her life. Read her book "Still Here" confession of a sex kitten. I use this book in my project "Ancestrat Wrap" I met Eartha Kitt several times here in Minneapolis,MN We both are South Carolina natives.I voiced my comment when this was a resolution at the General Assembly a few months ago. The people of South Carolina need to rally behind this bill for the late Eartha Kitt. Our younger generations of all races can benefit by learning more about her life.This Day would be a day to do just that. I will be watching to see what happens at the South Carolina Senate. I am a native of Orangeburg, South Carolina. I met Eartha Kitt several times here in Minneapolis,Minnesota

I am very sad to learn of the passing of Hon. Matthew J. Perry Jr. He will be deeply missed. Perry was the keynote speaker for Civil Rights Remembrance Day in May of 1997 at Trinity United Methodist Chuch in Orangeburg, South Carolina. This homecoming celebration payed homage to pioneers of the South Carolina's movement during the sixties. Perry, message spoke volumes,I am indebted to him,and others for sacrifices made for a better South Carolina and a better humanity.I am a native of Orangeburg and the visionary of Civil Rights Remembrance Day. I am in process of publishing this work of sixteen years.His legacy will live on forever!

Dear Mrs. Bogar : I am honored by your commentary. I wished everybody felt and thought the kind way you do about the Eartha Kitt bill. I wish I could say that it passed but right now it is in a limbo status. Due to the South Carolina State Senate not wanting to vote on it. I keep in touch with its author House Member the Honorable Gilda Cobb-Hunter (D) Orangeburg. And with those still in opposition such as Senators Jackson and Bryant. And I do not give up hope of the passage of H3351. Our best to you and yours and to all who seek only the best as we try to honor Eartha!
