Funny...if you had actually bothered to read the article, you'd know that he didn't say that "God is evil". He said that "the God of the Bible is evil" (in other words, the fictional character portrayed in the Bible is an evil character). Some theist you are, what a ... well, you know the rest.

There is absolutely no modern moral understanding that can trace its roots back to a biblical origin, none.

However, if we would get rid of the "us-versus-them" mindset that is part and parcel of religion, then there would be less problems.

People who are "born again" are very often on the brink of suicide due to prison, drugs, alcohol, depression etc and "finding jesus" is a psychological survival mechanism.

Atheists wouldn't normally (I can't speak for all atheists) indoctrinate their children. Atheism means "without theism" or without belief in god. He wouldn't necessarily command his children to deny the existence of a god - this is very dissimilar to what a religious person normally does by taking their kids to church and having those kids "put on their masks, memorize their lines, get up on stage" and go through the whole indoctrinating experience.

Also, realize that what schools teach kids and what parents teach kids are governed by completely different sets of rules. If parents want to brainwash their kids, that's perfectly legal.

School teachers who are suppose to be Christian, obedient to Jesus as his follower, teach the children in school, Evolution and hatred and violence by condoning war and apathy by favoritism.
