Clerical error blamed for missing 26,000 Northampton County votes

Pennsylvania election officials on Monday revised their unofficial vote count for the presidential primary after determining that a clerical error had kept about 26,000 votes out of the state tally.

Is there anything this state actually knows how to do "best in class?"

Another embarassing moment in work flow procedures in Pennsylania.

This is probably just the first batch of "missing ballots". There is more. Rendell reminds of Jeb Bush, promising to deliver Florida for his brother. Why does that guy look like a member of the "Sopranos"? He's got slime written all over him.

At least they double checked the books and found the mistake and the votes were counted... too bad that wasn't the case in Florida 8 years ago or we'd be sitting high on the hog right now with President Gore still in office.

While I'm not at all a supporter of Rendell, you need to let go of the conspiracy theories. Clinton trounced Obama in PA, and these totals actually increase her margin of victory. This is a single simple clerical error, and this is the reason why the results announced the day after the election are referred to as "unofficial".

Florida, on the other hand, was so screwed up with so many different problems that we will never know who would have won if all of the problems (many caused by Democratic election officials -i.e. the "butterfly" ballot) didn't exist.

How the heck do votes "go missing"? Will you please explain that one to me? They go missing because, that's what somebody wants them to do.

As I mentioned above, Florida was so messed up that nobody can say for sure who would have won if all the problems did not exist, and anybody who says they can is simply reflecting their partisan opinion. What is certain, however, that following all appropriate legal procedures to resolve led to the correct decision. Let it go!

Don't try to rewrite history - you might get a much different result than you expect. I, for one, am thankful that Bush was the one in office to deal with 9/11. Gore probably would have blamed global warming, since he seems to feel it is the root cause of all the world's problems!

A Gore administration would have been an unmitigated disaster. While there are certainly many reasons to disagree with Pres. Bush, don't forget what a liberal Democratic administration means for this country - higher taxes, more handouts to people who don't want to work, and a belief that America is the cause of the world's problems, not their solution.

We can file our tax returns over the internet, why can't we vote that way too?

All the gov't would need to do is to provide a thin, client software package for download to the masses, and away we go.

A 256K or 512K encrypted "key" would be all that's needed. The software could send this key with the SSN of the voter, and votes tallied in a diverse "farm" of servers.

It was a mess, but they threw away thousands of votes because of hanging "chad"!!!! obviously as we all know, the elderly vote (which is the majority vote in Florida) was severely compromised, because most of them voted in that way. Unfortuately I can't rewrite history, but I do believe Gore would have handled the Middle East crisis better than Bush. I also believe that he wouldn't have blamed Global Warming but I'm sure we'd be using a lot less natural resources by now. We'd need less gas which is causing all the turmoil in this country right now. There are going to be people who don't want to work no matter who the President is. However, the liberal funding you are talking about is meant to support those who can't support themselves. It's called compassion. I'm sorry that your taxes might be a little bit higher so that someone can have a roof over their head. You should be ashamed of yourself. America IS the cause of the world's problems hello we wouldn't even be in Iraq right now if the Reagon Administration hadn't put Saddam Hussein into power. How about GHW starting a war he couldn't finish. The Republicans have been messing around in the Middle East for a long time... and it's all about OIL... Reducing the need for oil reduces the need for the Middle East's oil which is what this war is really all about.

Excellent Point!. Imagine losing an election by a small amount , not realizing that a clerical error could have occurred and cost you 26,000 votes.
