I was very good friends with April and one of the last people to speak with her before she disappeared.(unfortunately, we didn't talk about her plans for the night, so I knew no more than anyone else) There were a lot of loose rumors hanging about, but one of the people who was believed to know something landed in jail last September for rape and kidnapping, so my guess is that this gave police the opportunity to finally tie it all together. Thank God! I thought they'd never get a break in this case! But they will still need a body before they can prosecute, if I understand the law correctly. I hope this all works out and there can finally be some justice in this case!

Investigators speant a lot of time and money on this, obviously. They had enough evidence to get a warrant issued, so they know he did it. They won't be fooling around. They'll get him to talk.

Great work by the Police finally getting this guy, but, pretty soon we have to ask ourselves: why do these scumbags get multiple victims, before we can stop them? I vote for the Death Penalty for this guy!

Based on the prior track record of this state, I predict he will plea-bargain, go to jail for 8 years, get out on probation and kill again.
Pay attention, all you voters out there!

"Leniart is presently in jail on charges that he sexually assaulted a teenage boy"

A child molester and a murderer of a little girl. I think we need a large alligator pit in the center of every town. These people should be thrown in around noon every day so people can be entertained on their lunch break

MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH APRIL'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS. I ONLY HOPE THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO GET APRIL'S REMAINS SO THAT THEY CAN HAVE A PROPER BURIAL AND A PLACE TO VISIT HER.

I HOPE THEY DON'T OFFER HIM A PLEA TO FIND OUT WHERE APRIL'S REMAINS CAN BE FOUND.

HE CAN BE CONVICTED WITHOUT THE BODY.

Just kill him. He's a piece of human waste that doesn't deserve any rights. I'm so sick of this state letting these animals run the show and have everyone foot the bill. ANYONE committing these types of crimes doesn't deserve to breathe air again. Put a slug in his brain and toss him on a trash heap.
All you stupid bleading heart liberals that think people deserve a chance, should all go stick your heads up your *** you morons.
Wow, finally coming from the prospective of someone who knows the victim, it really sucks to see these stories turned into fodder for ignorant political ranting. I don't think anyone is coming out to defend people like this, so please don't use this as another excuse to gripe about how much you hate the other political party, because a political party didn't kill this girl. Some jerk did.

To "Tim" and "LOL": And what do you think should happen if, god forbid, you, or your brother, or your father, or your son, were to be accused of a crime he didn't commit?(It happens sometimes, and more often than you might imagine.) Would you like to see him thrown into the large alligator pit or otherwise summarily executed? Or would you prefer that some fair process be followed first to determine his guilt or innocence? If we allow mob rule and people's (understandable) passions to govern, it will only be a matter of time before members of the mob become a victim of it.

This is one doozy of an April Fool's joke. The guy probably actually believed for a few minutes that he was going to be indicted 12 years after the fact with no physical evidence... what a sucker.

DueProcess....nobody has a problem with "due process". But once a slime is found guilty and is without a doubt guilty and is given the death sentence is it "due process" to let this slimes go 20 years or more without carrying out the sentence ? Is it "due process" to force the family of the victim or victims to re-live their pain time after time just so one inane appeal after another can be heard ??

Once found guilty then carry out the sentences....and those sentences should be SEVERE.

A confession from the accomplice should suffice. I doubt he'll get the death penalty because his life is the only bargaining chip they'll have to get him to fess up about where the body is at. If they come up short on evidence, they may still get him on lesser charges, in which case we will at least know who did it. Then we can make his life a living hell like OJ Simpson has to go through. But I have a feeling they've waited this long to get him so that they could have enough to put him away for good. They won't disclose the details yet, but after 12 years I doubt they'd jump on it prematurely at this point.

I have always believed prison should be a rehabilitative experience, rather than punitive. It serves the public to have inmates educated and counseled so they don't come out again and commit more crimes.
Most murderers (the ones who kill someone they know), do not kill again, as it is usually a crime of passion, self defense, revenge, once in a lifetime. Anonymous killers are a different story and sad as it is, pedophiles and sexual assailants don't seem to be able to be rehabilitated. It is the way the brain is wired. What gets them excited, repels normal people.
That being said, we all know we have a prison overcrowding program. Crimes that do not involve violence should not require incarceration, rather the criminal should make monetary restitution to the victims and the state and have probation.

When you have a pedophile, or a repeat assailant who strikes anyone, anywhere, they should never be let out. We need protection from these people. To say "They did their time" and release them is a cruel injustice to their victims and families and a threat to all of us.

It's very sad he was let out. We really need some smarter people on the parole boards. Every inmate wants to get out, what is wrong with the people who grant them their wish?

I agree that people shouldn't jump to conclusions. In America, people are innocent until proven guilty. As your pseudonym indicates, everyone has the right to due process.

I think that we can be reasonably sure that this guy wasn't arrested on a whim, given the length of this cold case. At the same time, we still don't have a body. In reality, she could have run off. Obviously, this guy is scum considering the fact that he was convicted of sexually assaulting a teenager. I certainly wouldn't want him hanging around anyone I love (or anyone, for that matter), however we can't jump to conclusions on this crime based on his other crime when we know nothing about the physical evidence that the police have. While it's true that they must have at least some physical evidence based on the fact that you can't convict or even hold someone based on hearsay, but it's still to early to judge.

Anyone with any kind of passion or empathy becomes incredibly angry and disgusted whenever he/she hears about a violent crime. Passion and empathy are wonderful and important entities. However, no matter how angry or disgusted we get over violent crime, we still shouldn't jump to conclusions until we are well-informed.
