Appeals court strikes down $1,100 jury fee

ATLANTA, Mich. - The Michigan appeals court has thrown out an unusual punishment for a northern Michigan man who was ordered to pay $1,100 for having a 3 -hour jury trial.

Its no wonder the county doesn't have money. If restitution such as this are thrown out or folks just fail to pay what the court orders them to.

The Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads in part as follows:
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed.
You cannot charge someone for using their rights as in-numerated in the Constitution. End of story.
