I feel your pain, brother. I'm an Iowa "ex-pat" who used to live on the North end of a South wind that carried the smell of the pig-confinement sheds to my nostrils on warm summer nights. A memorable but not a pleasant experience. But sensory assaults are rarely preventable or punishable when big bucks are to be made. Question: the disturbance of peoples' peace and quiet, is it from the plant itself, or from the truck traffic around it? I don't know anything about eth plants and their workings.

It made me upset to read that the neighbors had little to say. Being a neighbor we where never told anything about the ethanol plant coming, we all found out by reading the paper!!!! It is like a stab in the back from the whole county. The county knew where this ethanol plant was going, but nothing was said to the households that it would most effect. Everyone that I have spoke to says it's a great thing for the area, but when asked would you want it in your back yard? They all answer NO.

I am orginally from Blencoe and I was actually excited for the area. There is not alot around Blencoe. Jobs are sparse, the younger people move away or out of state to find employment and excitement. I personally moved away because of the employment situation. There wasn't any, or the wages were awful not to mention that in a close community it is hard to move up the ladder, social or otherwise. I am an author and Blencoe is my hometown and I am proud of it but when another town member wanted the bank to put up the article about my novel that was in the local paper the bank would not do it. They had no problem posted other articles, but they would not post anything about me. The local store did. The new plant would bring in jobs in an area that seriously needs it. I live in a city where we put up with the noise and smell of numerous factories like John Deere, Tyson, Omega Cabinets, etc that bring jobs, careers and new residents to our city. Yes, the plant will cause more traffic but it will also bring in new residents, employ more people and bring a boost to the economy of Blencoe and the neighboring towns. Progress is not always a boon but neither is it a horrible thing. If more employment was available so many of our young people wouldn't have to move away.

Blencoe needs progress or it will die out. Employment is sparse, the young move away as fast as possible, and the city council is always the same that never want change. Change is not always a bad thing. The plant will offer much needed new employment in an area that is isolated. Traffic of semi's should be no problem for an are of farmers. A corn market will be nearly in the back pocket of the local farmers, jobs available for the surrounding residents, and a boost to the economy of a tiny town and it's surrounding communities. I live in a city where we have John Deere, Tyson, Omega etc. just to name a few but they employ a huge number of people that in turn spend their paychecks in their own communities. Yes, I am a city girl but I grew up in Blencoe and it's time it steps into the path of progress before the cemetary is more populated than the town. Blencoe needs to attract businesses, housing developments and new residents.
