Funny that in these tough economic times CT DOT employess have just been granted the OPTION of working (and getting paid for) an extra 5 hours a week. This is at the choice of each UNION employee and not dependant on workload! They currently "work" 35 hours and can select to work 40 hours if they so desire! Talk about a sweet deal! You would never have known we were in a recession!!!

It's unfortunate that the state will take the easy route and slash low paying jobs, essential programs, and ask for across the board wage and benefit concessions. What they really need to do is cut the waste - consolidate the bureaucracy and eliminate the multiple levels of overpaid mid and upper level management. There are too many management level state employees who coast on the efforts of those below them.

The state owns a lot of property, such as houses on state land, etc. Why not consider selling off some of the real estate, much of it run under DAS or DEP.
Lastly, I hate my own suggestion, but why not sell off one state park such as Millers Pond in Durham so that the state coffers will be in better shape.

Yes, things are bad! But cutting ones throat is not the answer. We could sell state land or parks for PROFIT but then we'll have nothing left for our grandchildren to enjoy as we have - do you still wanna sell land that protects and saves Connecticut? As for the UNIONS, they RUN THE STATE and most cities because they have powerful friends in Hartford that will do anything to get a vote. The UNIONS have to jump in and tighten their belts as the rest of us, and maybe they will look better after this mess is over and gain bodies. Donovan is just another "mouthpiece" for the Democratic Party, he talks nothing about taxpayers only the party line. We are NOT going to get any change out of Washington as look who Obama has already put in play - mostly Clinton "old-timers" like Bush did with his dad's old crew. There is NO CHANGE IN D.C. AS HE PLEDGED!!!! Just the like Congress hasn't done a single thing since 2006 and have the worst record approval rating than any Congress or President!!! WEveryone - Republican, Democrat, Independent, whatever - have to pull together to get back on our feet and PARTY POLITICS is not the answer, so Donovan should put tape over his mouth and WORK with everyone and hear what they have to say before saying NO.

I still say sell 1 park. If not a park, get rid of excess property like Norwich State Hospital, all old cars, trucks, busses, and anything not being used by the state.

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Cancer

Someone dear to your heart isn't exactly a barrel of laughs today, are they? Is it your imagination or are they taking a perverse delight in spreading doom and gloom in all directions? If they've got good reason to be miserable then they deserve your sympathy, but even so it may not last for long. Try to keep active and cheerful, otherwise you'll also develop a tendency to brood.
