I feel for the people of Matagorda County. They have lost a great leader and settled for incompetence.

How can someone get elected Sheriff when he has 3 DWI's and a weapons conviction! Good Luck to the people of Matagorda COunty.....I have a feeling you are going to need it-especially when the newly elected Sheriff decides he doesn't like that job anymore and quits, like he's done before!

To Sheriff Mitchell, Thanks for 12 great years of service to our community, you will be missed. To Gary Mathis, Congratulations on your fleecing of our voters. It's going to look different from outside the jail cell huh?

Good Luck to Sheriff Mitchell. We are still trying to figure out what happened here. I have heard rumblings of how the election was thrown. On my way to vote at my poll, a black Mathis supporter handed me a copy of a 12 year old lawsuit that Mitchell inherited when he took office. Surely Bay City did not fall for that crap, obviously so. Sheriff, go make you some real money and Bay City, good luck to you and your new sheriff, the one with the 3 DWIs and the weapons offense, a great role model for the kids he works around and certainly great sheriff material!

To the man who possesses what it really takes to be a Sheriff and all the integrity that comes with it. You are a true lawman in your own right, EARNING your badge with pride and accomplishment. From the Bay City trenches to the county Sheriff, you have made your family proud. You have served this community with honor and distinction and that's something an errant voter can't take away from you. This is where the cowboy rides away, ride my love.

Well,we just purchased a 2nd home in Matagorda County, and were feeling really good about not being there full time, because we knew that Sheriff James Mitchell and his staff were there to help protect us and our belongings. Now, I don't have that comfort level and I wonder how many "new" home owners in the area will feel? With a Sheriff having 3 DWI's and a weapons offense, I think people are going to think twice before moving into the area. Did this election just limit the growth potential of this area? Best to you James.... You deserved much better than this...

You have served 12 years with honor and integrity and that speaks for its self. God obviously has other plans for you, go and give your time, honor and committment to where you are being led. I wish the men and women favor that served under you for so many years. Go forward knowing you truly are backed and supported.

Jim, you have put a great team together over the years. We feel our property was safe during your term. Not only did you handle the evacution for the huricanes perfect you have done the most outstanding job during your tenure that anyone could ask for. Mr. Gary Mathis has some big shoes to fill. Don't know if he has had the training for it. You know what it takes. Too bad the voters do not know this.

I would like to wish good luck to the citizens of Matagorda County. They have no idea what they have done to this county. They have sent away one of the best Sheriffs this county has ever had and put trash in his place. I truly feel sorry for this county now. I just wonder who they will elect to take his place when this 3x DWI and weapon offender decides this job is not for him and he quits like he has all his other jobs. No matter what happens, he will never come close to doing the wonderful job you have done for this county for the last 12 years. I am very proud of you!

It seems to me from what I have heard, the majority of the voters in this community assumed that sheriff Mitchell had this thing in the bag, he did, but when you assume something like that, you still have to go to the poll and vote. Since you didn't, now you have to live with what you have. Good luck to Sheriff Mitchell, you are a class act that this county will miss.

I am embarrassed to say that I am from a county that is filled with such arrogant, uneducated people. People that would elect someone like Gary Mathis as their new sheriff. It frightens me to think that our county will be run by someone who has 3 DWI's and a weapon offense conviction, for the next four years. So to the citizens of Matagorda County....you've made your bed, now you get to lay in it. I hope you enjoy watching this man run this county into the ground!!! As for Sheriff Mitchell, I will always consider you Sheriff Mitchell, no matter who holds the office. Good luck to you and your family!!

Sheriff Mitchell, I have lived in this town all my life and never have I seen anything like this. A sheriff with a DWI at all is enough to make me sick. The one person who claims to be a role model for our youth has 3! And then a weapon offense too? Bay City, you will get just what you deserve, a criminal running a law enforcement agency.

What is wrong with the law? When an elected official can have a record and serve as Sheriff? The law needs to be changed. Come on people write your Congressman,.

It seems to me that Gary Mathis has decieved the people in this county. While he was going door to door asking for votes, he never mentioned that he had 3 DWIs. I know, he came to my door. No sheriff anywhere should have a record such as the one Mathis has. If this was known before now, why didn't somebody bring this to the voter's attention?

I like the comment about making some real money. It was never about the money with you, but about compassion for the town you grew up in. Good Luck to you Sheriff, see you in four years if not before!

You people are dreamers. Sheriff Mitchell is a fraud. He had inmates bench warranted from TDC to build him custom gun cabinets and repair windows and cabinets for his home while the honest taxpayers of Matagorda County Paid the inmates meals, meds, transport, clothing, etc. A Sheriff whos jailers make female inmates strip and dance nude for explorers.

A Sheriff who's personal influence allows deputies to have sex with dispatchers while providing security at STP because of hightened security threats paid for by the NRC. That Deputy is now a Sergeant, The female was fired, They were both Married to other people

Deputies who accidently discharge shot guns into STP admin windows causing thousands in damages. People who promote in ranks because their family was restaurant owners where the Sheriff frequented regularly (A business owners son, Get It.)

What a Sheriff, Integrity, Give Me A BREAK. Matagorda needs a new Sheriff, Certainly not James Mitchell. He never should have been Sheriff to begin with as he is crooked as the day is long.
