Are we going to West Virginia this?

This editorial is right on the money! The unions and the politicians (at least the Dumb-ocrats!) will attempt to kill this chance to fire up our terrible state economy. The large labor unions have LONG outlived their usefulness, and it's time that workers started to realize that their unions do little for them, if the workers, themselves have a desire to actually WORK! The shiftless and lazy wil always find protection in the union.

West Virginia will always be last in the US as long as most of our citizens keep putting the same people back in political office. There needs to be way more balance in WV politics, and we're far from it! As long as the Dems control things, we'll always be dead last!

as a union member myself i totally disagree...my union has fought for every benefit i have.in the early 70,s the ceo of a company made 75 dollars to every 1 dollar a worker made.today a ceo makes over 500 to every 1 dollar a worker makes..its called corperate america..no man is worth that much,during the hearing of the 3 big automakers in congress the chevrolet ceo didnt even know about the plant being built in moscow when questioned about it. i am no where close to being lazy but have seen my boss asleep at his desk( so whos the lazy 1)i can tell by your message that you are a ass kisser in management trying to make it to the next level and will stab a worker in the back if it will make you look good to get that next promotion

I'll take on this one. Unions essentially killed America. The Postal System is just the latest example. GM survived through bankruptcy by casting off the parasites. Mostly. I grew up in Logan County. I can recall the night shift when the Rum Creek miners wouldn't come to work until the company came down and patched a a pothole. Company gone now. Miners unemployed. You people are not special. Rich and Truth Be Known, what is it, are you management or just jealous of the ones who have better jobs than both of you? Especially you Truth Be Known. You come from Logan and don't have a clue what the mines would be like if it weren't for the unions. I'll bet Don Blankenship is your hero. 29 people died Massey's Upper Big Branch mine and he refused to testify. Do you really think that mine would have been safer if it was nonunion?

I'll be the first to say that the union protects jobs of some
people who do not deserve it. What you need to remember is that all jobs have people in them (non union also)that don't deserve to be there.

The difference between you two and me is that when I was in the work force and I wanted to better myself, I didn't sit around and fill sorry for myself and cry about the good jobs, the bad jobs or the union jobs, I went and found a better job.

Rich, WV is 49th and you are still here. What is your problem? You have 48 other states that you could do better if you had the balls to try to better yourself. That goes for you too Truth Be Known.

This is what really gets me about all of you whiny crybabies, you will sit and complain about your union neighbor making $50,000 or what ever a year, but you don't ever seem care about the CEO making $25,000,000 a year.

Both of you need to go to China and get a job, they don't have unions there.

I watched the "State" of decline here in WV for many years now. I myself basically left in search of better work and a better pay. Yes the union has done alot for this state and its workers but that has been many years now. I watched mines shut down, there are many more factories rotting to the ground than open today. So many on public assistance that I would be afraid to know the precentage of West Virginians that are. Families broke apart, crime rate running wild. Our infrastructer is in need of repair. We have an oppurtunity to embrace a new resorce that can lead to many jobs and bring many out of poverty but what do we do, we attack the oppurtunity, we attack the ones that invest in this resource. So these "Big Wigs" are rich and want to make more money. But we show envy and not look at what we can as workers and West Virginians gain by this oppurtunity. Go ahead draw your welfare, be unhealthy, live in poverty. While our politicians and Union leaders vacation and enjoy running their Unions from the tropics, they live in wealth off of us. We need to take back "Our" unions and tell them to shut up and let us go to work for a change. We seem so much better at bitching than we do at working anymore and that is shameful.

Yup.......good idea buddy! I think I'll take your suggestion and take a trip to China, using the discretionary money I've made by working hard, using my own skills, saving up and going it on my own. I choose not to blame the rich fat cats who sometimes take more from their companies than they're worth, or rely on some union thug organization to intimidate my employer into paying me more than my skills are really worth.

Rich I am glad to hear that you are not just another crybaby who would rather sit around and be jealous of everyone who is doing something to better their selves. When you get to China be sure to stay there. Remember if it takes awhile to get your plane ticket because of the holidays you can still go to one of the other 48 state that are ahead of WV. Every state has a place for scabs.

Amused, what do you think, if Rich had kids leaving school and going out into the work force, do you think his advise to them would be try to get a job with a company (like a utility, most likely union) that pays well and has benefits, vacation and maybe even sick leave, or do you think he would tell them to go to McDonalds for minimum wage and make hamburgers?

20,000 miners die a year (give or take) in China compared to 30 (give or take) in the US,(God bless the unions).

You are right, he will be management in China. He will probably be the who shoots the people who protest for a better living in the back of the head and then send their family the bill for the bullet.

It is obvious that Rich is not union, how much do you want to bet that (if he is not on welfare) the money he does make comes from union people to some extent.

I've known people who own nonunion businesses or worked for nonunion businesses bitch about the unions, but I've never known one to turn down their money.

Unions like religion have served their purpose and should be discarded so mankind can move on.

I have been blessed with a family business. I pay my employees union scale, because it is Government contracts and everybody is happy. I've spoken with some non-union coalminers in your State about the union, they seem to want it, but when it comes down to reality, they are so afraid of loosing their jobs that it's a danged if you do and a danged if you don't. I am not for it or against it, just saying it is extremely good for benefits and job protection.
