I think he's Stupid #3.
Bad actor, dumb ex-cop....
Aren't guns illegal in Chicago?
How could he own a gun? |
You want to know what's really racist? Ragging on race issues where none exist. |
For the love of mankind, SHUT UP with the stupid race card already! This has nothing to do with race. Why bring it up? Are you bitter or something? |
ATP - Your post alleging racism is quite probably the most ignorant post I have seen in years. Flat out, no competition, and you are probably proud of it.
duhh my take? BLAME BUSH!!!! How's THAT for stupid? |
okay, it was a TWENTY TWO caliber hand gun; what was Farina going to do? officiate a race? shoot rabbits? pierce aluminum cans? what former cop even owns a 22 caliber hand gun?
The guy is a total liar. I hope he gets the book thrown at him.
Hey Dennis! Is that a gun in your luggage or are you just happy to see me?
Minor detail: He doesn't live in Chicago. Your comment is almost as stupid and irrelevant as the race-baiting one. Congratulations on having the second-dumbest post in this thread. |
A B List Actor has a small pistol in his bag at an airport and this is a top story? Translation....slow news day.
While it is unlawful, I'd trust Farina even in THIS situation...particularly in flight.
knucklehead
More proof he wasn't INTENDING to harm anybody. lets say a Bandit breaks into his hotel room.Farina shoots to wound (possible with a 22)and the bandit thinks twice about shimming THAT door again. |
So now a dangerous thug has been caught and the streets and skies are safe again ?
Every citizen should be free to arm themselves. If they were then 9/11 would never occurred. Government, so that it can be self-perpetuating, must issue enough laws to make every citizen into a law-breaker. Today there are so many laws we can't remember them or even know of them. Ignorance of many laws should be a valid legal defense. Carrying a weapon should be as acceptable as wearing socks. When people are armed where it's illegal they should not be arrested, they should only be turned away (unless it can be proven they were attempting to commit a crime). Farina's arrest is overkill. Very few places should be off-limits to gun possession. The law prohibiting gun possession on airplanes does not make us safer, it makes us less safe. Gun controls don't reduce crime, they increase it; gun controls are the reason 9/11 was a success. Give Farina his gun back and tell him to not do it again. |
How do you explain the astronomical number of gun deaths in this country relative to other developed nations, which have stricter gun control laws? |
Hey, "Fed up", There are more PEOPLE here then in other "developed nations"! Check the numbers in ratio to the population, not just for this item, but murders committed using any lethal tool (knives, baseball bats, ropes or other). You may see things differently.
Another item to think about: How many unarmed citizens are killed, maimed, robbed by thugs carrying unregistered guns. The gun is a tool. Lethal yes, but for whom, when it is carried by a registered firearm owner. Oh, by the way, this is good pub for Dennis. You know this waas his travel weapon and more and bigger ones are at home. Burglars, assassins take notice. |
I meant per capita, obviously. You're right, there is a real problem with violence in this country. I'm not sure that making guns more readily available to those who are prone to violence is such a good idea. I can understand the argument about wanting to arm yourself for defense, even though I don't feel that way myself. This is where gun control is a good thing, I think. Make guns available ONLY to law abiding citizens, with thorough criminal background checks and waiting periods. Of course we will still have the problem of stolen guns being used in crimes though. |
One background check could be okay (tolerable).
Waiting periods are proven to have no positive effect on crime. I've never heard where someone wants people prone to violence to have weapons. There's a problem with crime EVERYWHERE. It's easy to explain crime rates in different countries, and none of the explanations justify gun control. Gun controls increase crime. Here's the biggest problem with gun control: crime (or a lack of safety or security) will always be present. Crime can never be eliminated (all countries have crime.) We will never live with absolute security and or safety. The choice is not more safety and security and less freedom. The only option is being free and existing with crime. When guns are restricted, freedom is restricted while we still have crime. More security is an allusion. To have more security we must have more laws and more police looking over our shoulder; when we have that we have less freedom. The Japanese, Australians and Brits have less freedom than we do (and they have as much crime too.) "Give me liberty or give me death." |
I have lived in the U.S., Canada and England, and feel like rights and freedoms are more restricted in the U.S. than in the other two, especially since 9/11 (N.B. I am only saying that this has been my experience). For example, U.S. passports list countries which U.S. citizens are not allowed to visit. Anyway, now for some crime statistics. The U.S. has a lower assault rate than England or Australia (most likely because they fight with fists instead of guns), but the U.S. has significantly higher rates of violent crime than all three countries you mentioned in every other category. Murders per 100,000. 1. Russia Federation 18.07 2. United States 6.32 3. Malaysia 2.73 4. Taiwan 1.17 5. Spain 1.08 6. Japan 0.58 Rape per 100,000. 1. United States 34.20 2. England and Wales 14.69 3. France 13.38 4. Taiwan 8.82 5. South Korea 4.38 6. Spain 3.23 7. Japan 1.48 Serious Assault per 100,000. 1. Australia 713.68 2. England & Wales 405.20 3. United States 357.94 4. Taiwan 37.30 5. Spain 23.94 6. Japan 15.40 Robbery/Violent Theft per 100,000. 1. Spain 169.85 2. United States 169.02 3. France 144.10 4. Taiwan 14.35 5. South Korea 11.74 6.
