He was set up by Ray Luca.

Maybe he thinks he is a cop or a mobster in real life.

Dennis was a good Chicago police officer and it's refreshing to have a now famous person simply admit he made a "stupid" error.

They won't jam him up since he used to be on the job.

Did the 22 have a silencer?

No rap sheet plus record of honest public service should equal a plea to a misdemeanor, no time, modest fine. Totally fair.
Wikipedia says Dennis served on Hanhardt's major crime unit long ago. Didn't Hanhardt give technical advice on the "Crime Story" series? And didn't one of those episodes involve a sophisticated heist from a jewelry salesman involving the theft of his car? And was it art imitating life or vice versa? |

Definately a brain slip (not a real threat). The court should go easy on him.

well, he was a chicago cop- so what would you expect.

Farina is not the first person to plead forgetfulness when a gun is found in the luggage. I know a guy who tried it; security took his gun and let the guy go on his way. He was lucky.

well, at least he admitted it was a stupid oversight on his part. i cant believe that they wouldnt cut him a little slack. he is a former cop. i mean, we give ghetto bangers a slap on the wrist every day. at least we know that he was trained to know how to actually use a firearm and not just hold it sideways in one hand like a dumb thug who saw it on tv. that said, he should perhaps check his luggage more often before heading out to the airport.

He allowed by federal law to carry concealed due to his police service.

If he does time it will be a technicality ie 90 minutes for processing and a first/last meeting with probation.HOWEVER he will be the host of every cop raffle, dance ,street party, what have you, for the next five years, especially in L.A.

He FORGOT he had a gun in his luggage? Wow, that must have been your gun carrying luggage,eh. I would have thought an ex cop would have had a better excuse than that for leaving a heater in his carryon. These guys get so dillusional from acting like cops that they forget they live in the real world? I mean even a real cop has to go thru security, and they have that special little door for cops with guns at every airport I've ever been to. Maybe he forgot his don't bring your gun to the airport medicine? Of course he'll get a slap on the wrist, just like Harry Connick, but let a black entertainer try that , and watch the beat down on the security tape, you know it's true, racist America loves it's black talent as long as they know their place.

"Is this stupid #1? Let me talk to stupid #2".
"Why don't you go fix yourself a sandwich, or some f**king thing!" |

I guess this makes up for all the "thug guns" LAPD can't find or is too afraid to go looking for. I'm sure they're bragging to their friends and family, "another gun off the streets and another life saved". Yep, like Dad used to say "chasing mice while being stomped by elephants".

Almost sounds like a scene from movie Midnight Run

This is non-news.

This actor was a Chicago Police officer who worked as a detective in a highly active unit often dealing with organized crime. He put many drug dealers, burglars and robbery offenders in jail. I do not blame him for having a weapon with him when he travels. Who knows who still carries a grudge. He was trained how to properly handle a weapon and he has always been on the right side of law enforcement. He is not and has never been a criminal. The gun laws should be redone so honest citizens will not be put into this position.

A former Chicago cop "forgets" he has a loaded weapon in his luggage AND the gun wasn't registered! Maybe he was preparing for a movie role as yet another gangster or cop. In an interview of him in one of those inflight airline magazines, he spoke of his affinity for the Rat Pack. I don't know if he was referring to this kind of notoriety. Dennis, please keep the hoodlum bit for the "tough" made-men at Jilly's.
