Court documents say a 37-year-old man once suspected in the 1990 killing of a northwest Missouri farm wife told a friend he "got away with murder." The purported statement by Brandon Hagan came as investigators continue to examine the fatal shooting of Cathy Robertson in Chillicothe.

Judged: 2 2 2 The ballastics on the firearm in my opinion are questionable. I understand the testing was not conclusive. Only probable or more than likely. that alone is not absolute. I think the sheriff is bound to report what is discovered, regardless. |

Judged: 2 1 1 So.... let me see if I have this correct. You pray and are thankful to God for this turn of events. Would this be the same God that those opposing your view are praying to. And since your prayers were answered, and theirs were destroyed, does that mean that you're closer to God than they are? Or do you have a secret prayer you use for big stuff? Personally I'd question your God's batting average. He definitely had a swing and a miss when it came to an innocent mother being murdered. According to you, he then further eff'd up by allowing an innocent person go to jail for it. I suppose those are easily forgotten as long as he gets SOMETHING right. Maybe you should try a magic eight ball. |

Judged: 4 3 2 How about post number 4 on this topic for starters. How do you think the Robertsons feel about all this being drug up again? They are without their mother for the rest of their lives. The Woodworths can go visit their son and brother every weekend. |

Judged: 2 2 2 COLUMBIA, Mo.(AP)— Court documents say a 37-year-old man once suspected in the 1990 killing of a northwest Missouri farm wife told a friend he ‘‘got away with murder.’’ The purported statement by Brandon Hagan came as investigators continue to examine the fatal shooting of Cathy Robertson in Chillicothe and the subsequent conviction of a neighbor who was 16 when she was killed. While dating Robertson’s oldest daughter, Hagan showed signs of the violent temper that would lead five different people to later seek protection orders and accuse him of assault or threatening their lives. And Robertson’s husband Lyndel, who survived the shooting while the couple slept, initially pushed prosecutors to charge his daughter’s ex-boyfriend. Hagan never was charged with the crime. Livingston County investigators instead charged Robertson’s neighbor, Mark Woodworth, the son of Lyndel Robertson’s farm partner. Woodworth’s 1995 conviction was overturned on appeal, but he was again convicted in 1999 and is serving life in prison. A 2009 Associated Press investigation prompted Livingston Sheriff Steve Cox to take a fresh look at the case. His interview of Hagan’s friend is included in a request made Thursday by Woodworth’s lawyer for a new trial. A written summary of the interview prepared by Cox shows Hagan threatened to kill his friend, Aaron Duncan, and the man’s family in 2008 after Duncan declined to invest $5,000 in a mixed martial arts company started by would-be promoter Hagan near Lake of the Ozarks. Duncan also told two Miller County deputies who responded to his call for help about Hagan’s threat. ‘‘He told me,’I got away with murder once and I’ll do it again,’’ Duncan said in an AP interview. Hagan, who also is known as Brandon Thomure and usually uses his stepfather’s last name rather than his birth name, previously has denied involvement in Robertson’s death. He could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday. The request for a new trial before the Missouri Court of Appeals also includes a report by Cox that a former Livingston County investigator falsely said he, rather than another officer, collected fingerprint evidence used to convict Woodworth. The print was found on an ammunition box inside Robertson’s shed. Woodworth, a high school dropout who helped his father and Robertson, said the box of bullets had been moved to the shed from Robertson’s pickup truck. At trial, a farm employee said Robertson regularly moved ammo boxes between his truck and the shed. None of Mark Woodworth’s fingerprints were found on his father’s revolver, the purported murder weapon. The revised account of how the fingerprint from the box was obtained came during a September 2009 meeting of Cox, Linn County Sheriff Tom Parks, Livingston County prosecutor Michael Koenig and a Missouri Highway Patrol sergeant. Maurice Eskew, chief deputy in Linn County, told Cox that another former Linn deputy named Paul Frey had said he, and not colleague David Miller, lifted the latent fingerprint from the ammo box. Miller, who is now the Chillicothe fire marshal, did not return a telephone call seeking comment. Nor did Eskew or Frey. ... |
