My brother and his new wife were married at the Hanalei Bay resort the Saturday before the fire, and were still there when it burned down. My sister-in-law narrowly escaped the business center, chased out by what she referred to as "a waterfall of fire". My sister got married at the Oasis in Austin, TX a week before it burned to the ground in a lightning strike. Another brother had a fire shortly after his wedding. Obviously, no one should ever host our family weddings!

I agree that no one else should host your family weddings,,,but this fire is directly related to incompetence of a roofer. We are all glad that no one was injured--an undoubtedly a wonderful restaurant will arise from the ashes. As you are aware, Hanalei Bay Resort is sited on one of the most beautiful spots on earth.

I so agree, but I'm getting a little tired of waiting for these renovations to be done! In 2008 and in 2010, the restaurant was closed for renovations. One of our favorite things is to sit in the BaliHai and watch the sunset, and the food was amazing, too! We loved the coconut pancakes for breakfast! We are all booked for our 2012 visit, but are concerned that the restaurant still wont be open. To top it off, Guava will be under construction! But we still love HBR!
