Independence man dies in traffic accident
An Independence man was killed this morning when the car he was driving collided with a truck in Johnson County, Mo.
Jeb B. Cossey, 26, was driving north on Route Z and pulled into the path of a 1995 Kenworth heading west on U.S. 50, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol report. The 2001 Honda that Cossey was driving was pushed off the northwest corner of the intersection and overturned. Cossey was ejected and pronounced dead at a hospital.
The truck driver, a 36-year-old Arkansas man, suffered minor injuries in the 7:50 a.m. wreck, according to the highway patrol.

I pulled up on the wreck as the life flight helicopter was landing as i was sitting in the cross median i noticed that the sun was just a little ways above the horizon and was wondering if the sun was any cause of the wreck, i have traveled east on 50 hyw. in the morning and the sun will almost blind you,is it maybe by chance he did look to the east but because of the sun didnt see the truck approaching,it is a sad thing that someone lost their life so suddenly but i know i will always look a second and third time to the east each morning as i turn west from z hyw.

My goodness, I am so sorry that you had to witness such a horrific incident. I am part of Jeb's family. I work at a chamber of commerce not far from Independence, and on my way to work that morning, far before I knew of Jeb's accident, I commented how blinding it was for me to cross a busy street, looking east. I am sure you are probably correct, that Jeb looked and did not see. He may have been preoccupied, and with the sun it just added to his failure to see the truck. God bless you for your posting. Do please answer Jeb's mother, Kim. To loose a child is by far the worse thing that I can comprehend. Again, thank you very much. Sally in Atchison, KS
