Good story. A future follow up story might reflect on how the annexation will effect northern Overland Park (OP) as funds and attention are directed south at a time when OP needs to focus on the deterating core along Metcalf and the 79th & Antioch (crime area). Other than lip service, I do not see much popping up along Metcalf. Not enough is being done. What's happening to keep OP up now that the street program is over. What dollars are being spent on older infrastructure? Are new stores going to located only south of 119th Street? How about ACTION, a Revitalization Plan, NOW, for the existing area. Talk about Sprawl; let's not let the city take over more area until it can demostate it has a handle on what it has and is reinvesting in those areas. Is OP going to soak up all the land available someday only to look back an see a desolate northern part of the city with no way to fund the improvements needed?

Good post Unknown. I can't believe other people are not paying more attention to this issue. The last time I brought up sprawl on this forum most people laughed it off or looked the other direction. Overland Park will have bigger problems if they continue to concentrate on the sprawl areas, and not have a comprehensive plan to redevelop older areas of the city.

well you didn't lose it all at once. but they have there foot in the door, now they (the county, the city and developers) will just use eminent domain to get the rest. might as well start looking for new homes. I think the most interesting part is over 900 people wrote letters opposing this and 7 supporting it. can you say that the county does not represent the people of johnson county, but instead they represent the developers and whoever will line there pockets.before you know it they will be buying, excuse me stealing property in miami and wyandotte county, heres a good idea how about taking care of what you have now, greed is not good for anyone.

Annexation is a violation against personal property rights. People should update their land with a "Declaration of Land Patent" and record it in the record of deeds office. This way the government cannot sieze your land. A Land Patent is the highest title of ownership.
Whats amazing is our taxes give them the power to take away what is ours. The board sits up in their lofty positions making discisions over many not caring for the private citizen.
