OMG, this is insane. How dare they enforce such a stupid law. I guess they're hoping the mother to be will have 2nd thoughts after hearing/seeing the ultrasound. so great, she changes her mind and decides against the abortion, has the baby and then discovers she really doesn't want a baby.. and then what! Is the government going to pay for the ultrasound????

Some really great comments here! It's ridiculous to want people to know exactly what a medical procedure is going to involve, and it would be an absolute tragedy if, because of an ultrasound, a woman who was considering having an abortion changed her mind!(Seriously, I'm not sure this law is such a great idea, but why do some people seem so terrified that a woman who is considering having an abortion will wind up chosing to keep the baby? How do you call yourself "pro-choice" and have that attitude?)

An ultrasound of a fetus can give the doctor / patient certain medical information which could be necessary in making the proper decision on whether to have an abortion or not. Check with a reputable doctor.

Ladies, in the future, please call your local representative before having "the heavy breathing time" with your spouse or significant other. This will give them the time needed to pass emergency legislation that could require you to say "that was great" or "that sucked" at the end of your session.

It doesn't affect whether or not to have an abortion or the decision making process. It gives diagnostic information about the fetus, placenta and surrounding area. Is that information used to help carry out the abortion maybe? How does the ultrasound affect the decision to have an abortion? Just trying to follow the logic of this legislation is all not being confrontational.

In all seriousness, has anyone actually read that there are time limits/requirements for certain forms of abortion? For example, up until a few weeks 8-9 weeks or less, the pill can be given, to another point, a D&C procedure has to be done. An ultrasound is used, if nothing else, to date the baby to know which options a mother has.

I only know this b/c we went down the adoption road after a lot of infertility. I became very pro-life then when trying to understand why mothers would do abortion over adoption. You don't understand the preciousness of life until you've been unable to have your own.

It cuts into the bottom line when women aren't allowed or not easily able to see their baby 'aka blob' on the u/s. It was magical seeing my baby's tiny beating heart at 7weeks along. SEVEN weeks! The baby wiggled and jiggled, had hand buds, feet buds, and her dad's giant head. THAT'S what planned parenthood is afraid for women to see.

I don't necessarily agree with the gov't's involvement, however, it seems like a sound business practice to estimate the size and age of the baby for which methods they can use to end the beating heart.

Who is paying for these new anti-choice mandates? I your choice is to have the abortion, do you also have the choice to not have or view an ultrasound?
Sound like more money for Supreme Court lawyers.
Will raped/incested girls be put into a headlock and forced to "view" the result of their rapist's act?
Will raped women be legislatively forced to watch a porno/rape movie to remind them of the criminal act forced upon them?
