String of snow days deprives many students of food

Full story: The York Daily Record

As back-to-back snowstorms shuttered schools for the week across the mid-Atlantic states, parents fretted about lost learning time, administrators scheduled makeup days and teachers posted assignments online.

So what do kids eat in the summer when there is no school? Do the cafeteria aids make sure those kids eat everything on their plate instead of tossing it into the garbage? This is real sad. I see how easy it is to sign up for such a program. My school district sends those sign up forms home every new school year. I'm often tempted to fill a form out just to see what would happen. No I'm not on welfare or govt program. If your upset about the free lunch, free dental exams are offered as well, along with physicals in at school. I guess taxpayers pay for them as well.

What a winner. I had to join the miltary blah, blah, blah. No you didn't. It's called a FAFSA, and anyone with brains can fill one out. Just because you got snow jobbed by some military recruiter doesn't mean everyone else has to. I'm sure the ladies were knocking down your door too! HA!
My previous post was deleted as per my reply to idiot "JBA". Not politically correct, as I mentioned that the yellow bellies from Norway would all be wearing hob-nail boots if it were not for the good 'ole US of A. FAFSA, no such thing in the 40's/50's. We took care of ourselves as best we could. A$$holes like "JBA" rely solely on THE government to supply their every need. The ladies WERE knocking down my door. Not that I was in the military, but they peeked in my window and saw my humongous member. I enlisted anyway. Now I sit back and enjoy the fruits of my GI Bill. Thanks USN!!!!! Yes, I UNFORTUNATELY know what FA(G)FSA is, sadly!

JBA,
You still have to qualify for the aid from FAFSA. I have 2 kids in school and I am starting college again myself. I am required to fillout the FAFSA and every time I do, I am told I make too much for any aid. I cannot even get low interest loans.
I am gladly working more to pay my kids way to school because I look at it as an investment. They and I will be better off after school so it is all good.

To say that a simple form is the answer to everything just shows how little you actually know about the financial side of schooling. Once you have learned a little more on the subject, you can come back but until then may I suggest you apply at Harley. They have plenty of retards like you already and know how to deal with them.

As far as the free lunches and take home food, the parental units should be required to be available without notice for inspection of the home. If you have jewelry or big screen TV's, you lose your eligibility. It is not the governments place to raise your kids because you are too stupid to.

It's not just the free lunches for those that don't realy need it, if they would do without all the unnecessary items they think they just have to have. If you've ever seen the forms for help with electric and heating bills you would be shocked, these people are allowed to include an amount on their expenses for entertainment, e.g.- movies, dining out etc. It is truly amazing that the more you rely on the government, the more they will give you. RIDICULOUS.

I admire your honesty, I carry the same thought pattern! Pittiful are those who wish to fix the world on TAXPAYERS dollars! Give it away today, cry tomorrow! When does it ever end? IE...USA broke, check your TV, give to HAITI! I agree, I guess I should do it before i file the real BK, bankruptcy... Right?

I agree with the article. There are too many children that are left starving in this country. However, I fully blame the parents. Instead of buying unnecessary objects for themselves, try spending time and money on your own kids.
When is the last time you came upon a starving child in this country? Other than one deliberatly abused by a caretaker?

Believe it or not, my city carries it through the summer. Breakfast, lunch, and entertainment. I don't have a problem with those who work and can't afford childcare, but a major portion of the kids attending have "mothers" at home.

You need to learn to read. I didn't say I filled a form out. I said I was tempted to fill a form out just to see how easy/ hard it is to get into this program. Kinda doing my own research to see if they actually check out the applicants. I think those kinds of form should be filled out in the school office, not filled out and sent to school.

I'm glad to see that. I don't want to see a child starve.

In York city and Lancaster city, the summer parks programs provide free lunches. I am really unsure of why you would have a problem with the free dental exams and physicals. I guess you would sooner have these children end up in the emergency room with problems that could have been caught on a routine exam and then everyone really will pay when the hospitals jack up their prices to cover those expenses. I know that everyone is very intolerant of people receiving assistance but in these tough economic times one can't be too sure if they will be in the position of needing some kind of assistance.
