I will tell you how it went, and there will be more information coming. I am his mother. The High School and particularly Chris Richards SUPRESSED key evidence that would have stopped this fiasco in its tracks. They were ordered to disclose ALL evidence, and didnt do this. They turned over what ever they thought caused some question of his guilt as they had NO evidence to prove this. In fact they supressed evidence that proved the note was found about 5-7 minutes BEFORE my son signed out of class. The one student headed to the office to report it and when he got there this other student was already there, and to top it off, reported this as well to a male teacher who also testified during the trial but there was no mention of this fact until one of the parade of students that Mrs. Richards and Manning had pulled out of school to testify (and they knew nothing to testify to) happened to mention that there was another student before him reporting this threat. The other so called witness that has at least a 3 time felony conviction for obatining presciption drugs by false means ( in other words stealing them) tried to say Brian told her he did this, but her statement also contained facts that did not even occur until about 2 weeks AFTER his arrest, but she said he told her this info on the date he was arrested when he could not have known the future. This woman was arrested and CONVICTED her in Doddridge county for stealing drugs from senior citizens, and has convictions in other counties, but doesnt seem to serve any time. In Doddridge county she was given "house arrest". I dont care to think about what would have been done to anyone else for this "3 strike your out" offense. but the prosecuting attoney Lou Sammons tried to put a case together with the false and misleading information he had, and even managed to get it through the Grand Jury with facts twisted around. This boys life is devastated due to these false claims. Not to mention the stress and hardship, and financial burden this has caused our family. The school board brought in a HiGH payed lawyer from OHIO for his suspension hearing. I guess WV lawyers arent good enough for our tax dollars. This lawyer said they had NO evidence but DIDNT need any evidence, and they suspended him for a yr and a half. So he got his GED rather than subject himself to further prosecution by the school.Something other parents may want to know is that the school and police( by their own admissions) held my son INSIDE the school, and my daughter on the steps of the school for over an hour interogating them AFTER the other students and personnel were EVACUATED for bomb threat. This required the secretary to drive them to the evacuation center later when the police were done . We are in the process now with contacting the state school board, newspapers, and LAWYER concerning lawsuit for CHILD ENDANGERMENT, and MALISCIOUS PROSECUTION. AND rememeber :
YOUR CHILD IS NOT IMMUNE FROM THIS SCHOOL HARRASSMENT.

For your sake, I am glad that your son was found innocent. I still believe that he was somehow involved. But that is just an opinion that I have. I think that our court system has failed yet again. Bringing on more lawsuits is only going to make things worse, but if you are after some type of money than go ahead and waste your time. Your opinion of the school system is known, but I have a daughter who is a junior and I think that the school system is working just fine. Of course, my daughter has a 4.0 and NEVER been in any type of trouble. However, if it were my child that was being accused of such horrible acts, I would be acting the same as you. We always want to believe that our children can do no wrong. Anyway, good luck in your findings, but I do feel as though you are fighting a losing battle. By the way, I am not leaving my name because I want no trouble for my daughter. Her safety is very important to me.

I am also worried about my children as they were the ones held inside the school and on school steps AFTER your children and everyone elses were evacuated. My daughter has also never been in trouble but they attempted to accuse her in these bomb threats, and also accused her of threatening a teachers life but they couldnt get anyone to collaborate on this. My son has NEVER been into trouble other than "smelling" like cigarette smoke,,laying his head down on his desk, and a few other minor teenage boy stuff.
I am not out to waste my time with more law suits. My son was falsly accused when the school had evidence that he didnt do it. he was deprived of graduating with his class, or attending prom. Not to mention if this had been a real bomb, the school and police put my childrens lives in danger. It caused us a lot of unnecessary stress and worry. Not to mention the $6000 it cost to prove he was being railroaded.

As for the danger of your children, there were teachers inside as well as some police so obviously they knew it was not a real threat. If they were at all concerned about a real threat than they would not have been in the schools at that time either. Basically, if they were afraid that it was a real threat then they would have made EVERYONE including themselves leave the school. I heard from my daughter that there were a lot of people left at the school, not just your children. The truth to what went on may never come out. You are hearing your kids side of the story and everyone else is hearing a different side. This is going to get no where. I am sorry for you that you lost so much money from this and I am sorry that your son has had to handle this. However, I did hear that before your son was even arrested, that a relative of yours in the circuit clerks office called you to warn you that the police were on there way. I think that is horrible. Who knows what could have been waiting on that police officer. I can only imagine the worst. I know that if someone called me to tell me that the police were on there way to arrest my daughter, I can honestly say that I could possibly freak out and make the situation worse. Whoever called should have lost her job, where's the privacy act come in to play?

That is an outright LIE! I was not called by anyone to tell me that the police were "On their way". PLUS, I dont have a relative in the circuit clerks office ! I doubt the Circuit Clerk would appreciate that comment. And I wasnt home for anyone to warn they were coming. I was in Harrison county. I was then at the magistrates office after the warrant was issued and he was being brought in.

Better get your facts straight.

And if they didnt feel it was a "real" threat, why were anyone evacuated? I seriously doubt that " a lot of people left at school" were other students. Unless they were still filling buses.
The teachers are adults, if they felt unsafe they could have left at any time once students were evacuated.

And what I heard also came from FACTS brought out in court. Some I hadnt heard about until the prosecution brought them up.

If you read what I wrote again, you will see that I wrote "heard". I never said that these were the facts. I think that there is someone in the Court House that you are related to that called. I could have misunderstood that it was the circuit clerk's office. Do you have a relative in the court house? Someone in the courthouse called and released the information. However, other than arguing back and forth, I have my rights to voice my opinion just like you do.

First of all, I'm really sure the Prosecutor's Office and school officials had nothing better to do than sit around and devise this master plan to arrest Brian Travis. And don't whine about having to pay sooooo much money for a lawyer, when that was YOUR choice. He would have been appointed a very competent lawyer for NO CHARGE. But you were the one that chose to seek out probably one of the most expensive lawyers in Clarksburg. What that tells me is that you were concerned that the evidence or lack of would have spoken for itself. Hmmmm, maybe poor little Brian isnt so innocent. And if he is so "damaged" from all of this, maybe he should do everyone a favor and leave Doddridge County, because I am SURE that it won't be long unitl you people start saying law enforcement is picking on him and everyone is out to get him. Once again I am SURE everyone has BETTER things to do than worry about Brian. Get over it!! You would think you would be happy that he was not convicted but NO lets be ridiculous about it and start getting revenge on everyone. Looks like the true colors are showing.

I have several comments to make.

1. I'm very happy that Brian was found innocent.
2. If your children were left in the school or on the school steps while all of the other children were evacuated, that should be criminal! It is my understanding that the law requires them to remove all children from the school when a threat has been received.
3. The school should be liable for him missing out on a very important part of his young adult life! Those are times he will never get back.
4. Was the prosecutting attorney's office aware that evidence had been supressed? Did this come out in court? If there was supression of evidence that showed he couldn't have placed a note, doesn't the prosecuting attorney's office have a duty to press charges against that person?
5. If you have other children in the schools, you might want to consider homeschooling them!

By the way, if our High School is so fantastic, why does the state have them on probation, and threatening to take it over. I may be wrong, but I think they were on probation a few yrs ago as well.

I just finished reading the reports from the OEPA for each of our three schools. They are not good. If the state takes over, we could end up like Lincoln County. Why are our children testing worse, not better?

I just checked wboy and wdtv..nothing on their web pages about Brain being found innocent. A little blurb on WTAP. Nothing in the clarksburg paper today either?

What Doddridge County needs is a real newspaper. Maybe that would help the gossip mentality around here if people got their news from a real news sources instead of the gossip chain.

It sounds like Lu wasn't aware of the evidence that the school had until testimony was given..so how was it his fault? Or am I mistaken?

I can't understand why all of you parents are so quick to judge the school system. I blame you parents..I had a son who was bullied and of course, the school didn't want to get involved. This is because the parents these days think school is a babysitter. So many parents these days don't teach their kids to be respectful of teachers or fellow students. I feel that everytime your child can not act right in school (which is a reflection of you) then you should be called to school each and every time until you get it through your heads that you raised that child, you instilled their morals (or lack of). Education, for the most part, is free to our students, how about going to other countries where it's an honor to be able to attend any kind of school. They do not have discipline problems. So, quit always blaming the school system, start looking in the mirror and see where all the problems really start.

The rumors around the County are that the Travis family is sueing the School Board, the State Police, the Sheriff's Department and it is hard to tell who else. That is the dumbest thing that I ever heard. I heard that they are sueing the school board for a million dollars. That is just ridiculous. Come on a million dollars. Can you say Greedy? In my opinion, a very guilty boy got off and the family should be thankful. I think that lawsuits are only going to embarass the family more. I hope that NO ONE agrees with this ridiculous act by the travis family.

Thank you DC citizen and others for their support and prayers. "lawsuits" has been making lots of noise, but no facts to back it up. Mine was backed with evidence and I wasnt ashamed to leave my name. And no ,"lawsuits" I will say it again, I am angry and I am sure if you have talked with other citizens you will find there are valid complaints about our Sheriffs office. And NO, no mention anywhere has been made about suing for dollars, let alone a million. And citizen your right about WBOY plastering the story of his arrest all over the news for weeks. But when they were called about a story about him being found innocent, they replied they dont like to report on bomb threats because in encourages them. Too bad they didnt think about that last yr.

The gentleman that really messed up at WVU had the guts to resign...do you think that would happen in Doddridge? I doubt it.
